Surescripts Named Qualified Health Information Network
Surescripts Health Information Network LLC™, a subsidiary of Surescripts®, has officially been designated as a Qualified Health Information Network® (QHIN™) by The Sequoia Project, Inc., the Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE®) overseeing implementation of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement™ (TEFCA™). With this designation, Surescripts joins a select group of organizations authorized to support nationwide health data exchange under TEFCA’s rigorous technical and policy standards.
As a designated QHIN, Surescripts Health Information Network is now positioned to facilitate secure, interoperable access to electronic health information across the U.S. healthcare system. The QHIN status empowers Surescripts to act as a central node in the TEFCA framework, enabling seamless data exchange among healthcare providers, hospitals, payers, technology vendors, and public health agencies.
“We are thrilled that Surescripts Health Information Network has achieved QHIN designation and are deeply grateful for the support provided by The Sequoia Project and the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ASTP),” said Tara Dragert, Chief Product Officer at Surescripts and President of Surescripts Health Information Network, LLC. “This designation allows us to extend the reliability, support, and trusted partnerships Surescripts is known for to an even broader national data exchange infrastructure.”
This designation marks a significant milestone for Surescripts and the broader healthcare industry. Through its Interconnect™ platform, participants in the Surescripts Network Alliance—including electronic health record (EHR) and health IT vendors, pharmacies, health plans, and health systems—can now connect to the Surescripts Health Information Network, leveraging its new role as a QHIN. This connectivity enables enhanced interoperability, data exchange efficiency, and improved care coordination.

For more than 20 years, Surescripts has played a pioneering role in advancing health information sharing across the U.S. healthcare ecosystem. Through collaborative innovation and a commitment to trust and transparency, Surescripts has helped deliver solutions that empower clinicians, care managers, and pharmacists with fast, secure access to patient information when and where it is needed. These innovations have supported improved decision-making, enhanced safety, and more cost-effective care.
“This QHIN designation is a powerful validation of our mission to advance clinical intelligence sharing and elevate healthcare collaboration,” said Frank Harvey, Chief Executive Officer at Surescripts. “As we face growing challenges in healthcare—ranging from care fragmentation to rising costs—simplifying and scaling the secure exchange of health data is essential. With this designation, we’re able to deliver even greater value to providers, patients, and the entire healthcare ecosystem.”
The QHIN designation process, led by The Sequoia Project, involves stringent evaluation to ensure that each designated network meets TEFCA’s high standards for governance, privacy, security, and technical performance. The goal is to establish a unified, trusted national framework that allows healthcare organizations to securely query and share data across disparate systems, regardless of location or vendor.
“The QHIN designation process is intentionally rigorous to uphold the integrity of our national health information exchange infrastructure,” said Mariann Yeager, CEO of The Sequoia Project and lead of the RCE. “We’re excited to welcome Surescripts Health Information Network as our newest QHIN and look forward to seeing its contributions to expanded TEFCA connectivity.”
As TEFCA adoption accelerates, healthcare stakeholders across the country are recognizing the value of participating in a QHIN. These networks serve as critical pillars in achieving the nationwide interoperability goals outlined by the 21st Century Cures Act, facilitating a system where health information can follow the patient, regardless of geography or provider.
Surescripts originally announced its intent to become a QHIN in April 2023, aligning its long-standing commitment to interoperability with the national goals of TEFCA. Since then, the company has worked closely with the RCE to meet the technical and policy requirements necessary for QHIN designation.
