Eleven prominent institutions presented clinical studies demonstrating the Swoop® system’s capabilities for acute stroke diagnosis, intracerebral hemorrhage monitoring, and multiple sclerosis imaging. These studies emphasize the potential of portable MR technology to expand access to critical diagnostics where traditional high-field MRIs are not practical.
Washington University School of Medicine presented the most extensive study on Swoop® to date, analyzing over 350 exams in acute neurological care. The study, titled Application of Clinical Low-Field Mobile MRI in a Large Academic Medical Center, found that the Swoop® system’s images effectively identified brain pathologies compared to conventional MRIs, especially in acute stroke patients unable to undergo traditional MRI. Dr. Cyrus A. Raji, MD, PhD, noted that the system’s ability to perform rapid follow-up imaging without transferring patients is invaluable in neurocritical care.
Another notable study, the ACTION PMR (Acute Ischemic Stroke Detection with Portable MR), presented by Dr. Nandor Pinter of the University at Buffalo, explored the effectiveness of the Swoop® system in stroke detection. The study, which included multiple sites such as Massachusetts General Brigham and Ohio State Hospitals, demonstrated that the Swoop® system could accurately detect lesions and identify the location of strokes. Dr. Pinter emphasized the potential of AI-powered portable MRI to revolutionize hyperacute stroke diagnostics and improve patient care.
