Siemens Healthineers has introduced the Biograph Trinion, a cutting-edge positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner renowned for its high performance, energy efficiency, and wide-ranging clinical capabilities, all while maintaining a low lifetime operational cost.
James Williams, PhD, Head of Molecular Imaging at Siemens Healthineers, expressed pride in offering customers the Biograph Trinion, emphasizing its precision, speed, and alignment with clinical demands. This innovative system is engineered with user and patient-centric features, ensuring sustainability through reduced installation and operational costs alongside effortless scalability.
The scanner’s high-performance PET/CT platform boasts a new, scalable, air-cooled, digital detector utilizing lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO) crystal elements. This technology delivers exceptional spatial resolution and ultrafast time-of-flight performance, enabling swift scans and minimized patient radiation doses. Complementing this, the scanner integrates CT technology from Siemens Healthineers’ established SOMATOM go. platform, providing rapid, high-quality CT scanning with up to 128 slices.
A standout feature of the Biograph Trinion is its single, integrated platform, facilitating seamless PET, CT, and post-processing workflows without necessitating separate systems. The scanner also incorporates integrated post-processing imaging applications catering to oncology, theranostics, cardiovascular imaging, and neurology imaging, including Alzheimer’s disease.
Designed for optimal user and patient experiences, the scanner’s workflow leverages artificial intelligence and the myExam Companion intelligent user interface to automate tasks and guide users through each step of the examination. The inclusion of a portable Scan&Go tablet and remote control enables mobile workflow, simplifying scanning procedures and offering flexibility in operation. Moreover, an integrated patient camera and moodlight feature enhance patient comfort and communication during examinations.
The Biograph Trinion’s design prioritizes sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Its air-cooling system simplifies installation compared to water-cooled alternatives, while its compact footprint ensures compatibility with traditional PET/CT rooms. Unlike conventional PET/CT scanners requiring separate rooms for workstation, scanner, and computer equipment, the Biograph Trinion integrates computer technology within the system gantry, eliminating the need for an equipment/utility room. Furthermore, the scanner’s energy-efficient design includes a smart power-save mode, yielding up to 46% energy savings. Additionally, its scalable axial field of view allows for on-site upgrades without costly room renovations or workflow disruptions.
