UpScriptHealth, a leading direct-to-patient telehealth company offering new distribution channels for pharmaceutical and medical device brands, announced the expansion of its partnership with Dexcom, the global leader in real-time continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for people with diabetes. Following the success of the GetDexcomRx.com pilot program, UpScriptHealth now provides telehealth consultations for diabetes patients directly through Dexcom.com.
UpScriptHealth initially designed a unique user flow for Dexcom’s pilot program to explore different patient pathways for the medical device company. Following the pilot’s success, UpScript has now integrated its platform into Dexcom’s main website, allowing people with diabetes to complete an online medical questionnaire and connect directly with healthcare providers for consultations on Dexcom G6 and G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Systems, which require a prescription. These prescriptions can be issued by UpScript’s telemedicine providers, enabling patients to obtain CGMs without leaving their homes.
Dexcom CGMs are small, wearable devices that continuously monitor glucose levels and wirelessly send data to a smart device or receiver, providing real-time glucose readings without the need for finger pricks or scans. They also feature customizable alerts and alarms to help users manage blood sugar levels and can share glucose data in real time with up to 10 followers.
Approximately 38 million Americans have diabetes and need to monitor their glucose levels daily. However, the ongoing healthcare worker shortage has made it increasingly difficult for patients to access in-person doctor appointments, with an average wait time of 26 days for new patients. Telemedicine is helping bridge this gap, particularly for the 15.8 million Americans living in pharmacy deserts where accessing medical devices and supplies is a challenge. Expanding CGM availability is crucial, as studies show that patients in rural areas are 31% less likely to have access to these devices compared to those in urban areas.
“We’re proud to partner with Dexcom to make life-changing devices more accessible for people with diabetes,” said Peter Ax, Founder and CEO of UpScriptHealth. “In many areas of the country, healthcare providers and pharmacies are scarce, leaving many patients without necessary treatments. Our direct-to-patient telemedicine technology ensures that eligible individuals nationwide can conveniently access medical care and prescriptions, and the success of the Dexcom pilot demonstrates the demand for more telehealth options in the CGM market.”
