UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) is making strides in addressing the impact of the recent cyberattack on the U.S. health system and Change Healthcare services. The company is expanding financial support for affected providers while taking steps to restore services.
Change Healthcare will roll out medical claims preparation software today, marking a crucial stage in service resumption. This software will gradually reach thousands of customers in the coming days, with third-party attestations expected before services go live. The restoration process will continue in phases until all customers are reconnected.
Andrew Witty, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, noted significant progress in service restoration and urged affected healthcare providers to reach out for assistance. The company has already restored electronic payments and pharmacy network services, with ongoing work to address remaining issues.
To aid providers facing financial challenges due to the cyberattack, UnitedHealth Group has provided over $2 billion in advance funding through various initiatives. Recognizing the diverse needs of healthcare providers, the company is enhancing funding support to streamline access for providers. Additionally, it has temporarily suspended prior authorizations for outpatient services and utilization review for inpatient admissions under Medicare Advantage plans to further support care providers during this period.
