The SBB Research Group Foundation Sponsors DKMS Donor Drive

DKMS and the SBB Research Group Foundation collaborated on a volunteer initiative, part of the Champion A Charity Program, supporting local nonprofits.

At Night Shift Brewing near Boston, Massachusetts, a charitable event unfolded as DKMS found a staunch advocate in Jennie Osber, leading the volunteer effort. DKMS, a global nonprofit combating blood cancer and disorders, aims to raise awareness, recruit bone marrow donors, and fundraise for registration costs to advance blood cancer research.

The brewery event focused on encouraging attendees to register as potential bone marrow donors via simple cheek swab kits provided by DKMS. Osber’s efforts significantly bolstered the donor registry.

Cheek swab samples collected were sent to DKMS for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing, crucial for adding donors to the global registry. Matching HLA characteristics between donors and patients enhances the chances of successful bone marrow transplants, offering hope to blood cancer patients.

This event advanced DKMS’s mission, underscoring community engagement’s impact in fighting blood cancer. The commitment of the SBB Research Group Foundation and DKMS volunteers highlighted collective efforts to positively impact lives affected by blood disorders.
