Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. (Nasdaq: TNDM) has provided an update regarding the March 2024 recall of its t:connect mobile app for Apple iOS devices. The recall addresses an issue causing rapid depletion of the t:slim X2 insulin pump battery, potentially leading to premature pump shutdown. Despite the release of version 2.7.1 in March, some users have continued to experience battery depletion. Affected customers received updated guidance on August 9, 2024, and Tandem plans to release a new app version to resolve the issue, with notifications sent via email and app updates.
The pump shutdowns could lead to serious conditions like hyperglycemia or diabetic ketoacidosis. To date, there have been 107 confirmed adverse events, including two hospitalizations but no deaths.
Recommendations for Users
Tandem advises t:slim X2 pump users to:
- Charge the pump daily for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Monitor battery levels closely and charge before sleeping.
- Carry backup supplies.
- Address low battery alerts promptly.
