Superior HealthPlan, a key managed care organization in Texas and a subsidiary of Centene Corporation, has released its annual community investment report. The report underscores Superior’s dedication to enhancing the well-being of individuals and families across the state. In 2023, Superior collaborated with over 400 community-based organizations and school districts, engaged in 840 events, and contributed nearly $950,000 in grants, sponsorships, and employee donations. These efforts align with Superior’s mission of improving community health one person at a time.
Mark Sanders, president and CEO of Superior HealthPlan, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting Texas communities. Sanders stated, “For 25 years, Superior has prioritized finding ways to support Texas communities, and 2023 was no different. By working closely with our partners, we have provided funding for innovative programs to help Texans address critical health challenges.”
Superior’s initiatives in 2023 extended beyond traditional healthcare needs and targeted Non-medical Drivers of Health, focusing on improving access to personal care items, food, and mental health resources. Key initiatives included:
- Hygiene Closets: Superior contributed nearly $550,000 since 2020 to launch and sustain community hygiene closets, providing essential items such as personal protective equipment, toiletries, laundry baskets, and detergents. In 2023, $134,000 was donated to support 22 closets in Texas.
- Inclusive Events: Superior partnered with local movie theaters to offer sensory-friendly movies for families impacted by autism and sensory processing disorders. Since 2018, over $70,000 has been donated to provide these movies at no cost to attendees.
- United Way: Superior employees pledged $2 million to Texas chapters of United Way over nine years, including almost $200,000 in 2023. This annual giving campaign has supported various community initiatives assisting Texans in need.
These partnerships not only enhanced the health and well-being of individuals across Texas but also allowed Superior to foster meaningful relationships within numerous communities.
