Superior HealthPlan Marks 25th Anniversary with $25,000 Grant to NAMI El Paso
Superior HealthPlan, a prominent managed care organization in Texas and a subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), announced a $25,000 grant to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) El Paso in honor of its 25th anniversary. The grant aims to address the mental health needs of children and youth in the El Paso community.
Mark Sanders, president and CEO of Superior HealthPlan, stated, “Since 1999, Superior has provided healthcare to Texans in need. To celebrate 25 years of service to local communities, we are proud to present NAMI El Paso with this special anniversary grant, which will help them support the El Paso community and continue making a tangible difference in the lives of Texans.”
Since its inception, Superior has been committed to supporting vulnerable populations. Over the past several years, the organization has provided more than $600,000 in grants to numerous community organizations and healthcare providers across the state. The Superior HealthPlan Anniversary Grant Award, which is a unique initiative celebrating the company’s milestone, invited community organizations and schools in Texas to apply for funding. After an internal committee selected ten finalists, the winning organization was chosen by employees.
Isidro Torres, executive director of NAMI El Paso, expressed gratitude for the funding, saying, “We are thrilled to be the recipient of this grant as Superior HealthPlan celebrates its 25th anniversary in Texas. This support will allow us to expand our youth mental health education efforts and further assist individuals and families on their mental health journeys.”
NAMI El Paso has been a vital part of the local mental health support system since its establishment in 1986. What started as a small grassroots organization has grown into a comprehensive provider of mental health programs for the El Paso community. NAMI El Paso offers peer-led support groups, educational programs, and advocacy services to those affected by mental health issues.
With the $25,000 grant, NAMI El Paso will expand its mental health education initiatives by providing free, evidence-based learning sessions to middle and high school students in the area. These 50-minute sessions aim to raise awareness about mental health conditions, featuring brief presentations, short videos, and personal testimonies from young adults sharing their mental health journeys. These programs are designed to empower youth and foster understanding and acceptance of mental health issues.
Superior HealthPlan’s anniversary grant initiative is part of a broader commitment to community support. Each year, Superior also provides $10,000 grants to eligible organizations and healthcare providers in Texas. The next round of applications for these annual grants will be accepted until March 31, 2025, with the awards being made in April 2025.
