Seven UHS Subsidiaries Recognized Among Newsweek’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers for 2025
Universal Health Services, one of the largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services in the United States, announced that seven of its subsidiaries have been honored in Newsweek’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers 2025 list.
The recognition underscores UHS’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, as well as its focus on long-term recovery outcomes.
National Recognition for Excellence in Addiction Treatment
The Newsweek ranking, now in its sixth edition, is compiled in partnership with global data research firm Statista. It identifies the top addiction treatment facilities in the United States based on a multi-faceted evaluation process that incorporates professional recommendations, accreditation status, range of care services, and patient feedback.
For the 2025 ranking, Newsweek evaluated and awarded 420 facilities nationwide, up from 400 facilities in 2024. This increase reflects both the growing demand for high-quality addiction treatment and the ongoing expansion of reputable facilities across the country.
The UHS Subsidiaries Honored
The seven UHS subsidiaries that earned a place on the 2025 list represent a diverse range of geographies, specialties, and treatment approaches, each offering unique strengths while adhering to the highest clinical and ethical standards in the industry.

A Rigorous Evaluation Process
The 2025 Newsweek ranking focuses on facilities located in the 25 states with the highest number of addiction treatment centers, as identified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The states evaluated were:
Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
Facilities in other states were grouped into four geographic regions for evaluation.
Scope of Facilities Considered
The ranking includes only inpatient, residential, and long-term addiction treatment centers, defined as facilities requiring a minimum stay of 30 days (or, in some cases, 28 days). Short-term programs and facilities that provide only outpatient services were excluded from the analysis.
By focusing on long-term treatment providers, Newsweek sought to highlight programs with the capacity to address deep-rooted substance use disorders and provide patients with the sustained care necessary for long-term recovery.
Scoring Criteria
The selection process used four primary data sources to calculate each facility’s total score:
- National Online Survey (55% of total score) – Reputation Score
- Conducted among medical professionals, including physicians, therapists, and staff working in addiction treatment centers, as well as managers and administrators.
- Respondents rated facilities based on recommendation likelihood and perceived quality.
- Accreditation Data (35% of total score) –
- Assessed whether facilities met recognized national standards for safety, quality, and patient care.
- Accreditation from reputable bodies such as The Joint Commission and CARF International was a key consideration.
- Care Services Data (5% of total score) –
- Evaluated the range and comprehensiveness of care services offered, including detox, dual-diagnosis treatment, relapse prevention, and aftercare support.
- Google Reviews (5% of total score) –
- Analyzed public ratings and reviews to capture patient and family experiences, providing a real-world perspective on service quality.
Only the top 10–18% of facilities in each state or region received awards, meaning that recognition on the list places these facilities among an elite group of providers.
The Importance of Recognition
The opioid crisis and other substance-related public health challenges remain a major concern in the United States. According to recent SAMHSA data, millions of Americans struggle with substance use disorders each year, but many do not receive the treatment they need.
Recognition in a national ranking such as Newsweek’s serves multiple purposes:
- Guidance for Patients and Families – The ranking offers a vetted, research-backed resource to help individuals identify trusted treatment options in their area.
- Benchmarking for Providers – Facilities recognized can use the distinction to validate their quality standards and benchmark against other leading programs.
- Encouragement for Quality Improvement – The public acknowledgment motivates facilities to continually invest in evidence-based practices and patient-centered care.
UHS’s Commitment to Behavioral Health
Universal Health Services operates one of the nation’s largest networks of behavioral health facilities, with services spanning acute psychiatric care, residential treatment, outpatient programs, and addiction recovery services.
The company’s approach to addiction treatment emphasizes:
- Individualized Care – Recognizing that recovery is a personal journey, UHS facilities develop treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs, preferences, and medical history.
- Dual-Diagnosis Expertise – Many individuals with substance use disorders also experience mental health conditions. UHS integrates psychiatric care with addiction treatment to address both simultaneously.
- Continuum of Care – From medically supervised detox to long-term residential programs and outpatient follow-up, UHS provides a seamless transition between levels of care.
- Evidence-Based Practices – Incorporating therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and trauma-informed care.
The seven UHS subsidiaries recognized in the 2025 ranking reflect the organization’s depth of expertise and its investment in specialized programs that meet the diverse needs of patients.
