Podimetrics, creator of the SmartMat™ and integrated clinical and patient support services that can help save the limbs and lives of people living with complex diabetes, today announced Barbara Greising will be joining the Podimetrics executive leadership team as Chief Commercial Officer. She will be tasked with ensuring more people — particularly those most at risk of complications from diabetes, such as minority patient populations and those facing specific social determinants of health (SDOH) challenges — have access to the Podimetrics SmartMat™ and integrated services. Podimetrics’ home-based, proactive care approach has been proven to help save the limbs and lives of people facing complications from diabetes.
“Barbara has the experience, insights, and industry relationships needed to amplify awareness for the specific problems Podimetrics can solve for when it comes to preventing costly and preventable amputations resulting from complex diabetes.
Today, every three minutes in the United States, someone has a limb amputated due to diabetes. The process is as traumatic as it is expensive, with a single lower-limb amputation costing as much as $100,000 in direct spending. These patients often come from traditionally underserved populations, including Black and Latinx communities, that disproportionately experience complex diabetes.
While the U.S. health system is becoming more aware that these disparities exist, health plans and providers continue to struggle to take action to address shortfalls and connect people with the resources they need to avoid amputations and other costly complications from diabetes. As chief commercial officer with Podimetrics, Barbara will be focused on prioritizing preventive care for this high-risk yet chronically underserved population of people who comprise more than one-third of total diabetes care costs today.
“Barbara has the experience, insights, and industry relationships needed to amplify awareness for the specific problems Podimetrics can solve for when it comes to preventing costly and preventable amputations resulting from complex diabetes,” said Jon Bloom, M.D., CEO and Co-founder of Podimetrics. “She truly is a jack of all trades and intimately understands the complexities faced by both health plans and health systems — as well as those living with diabetes — when it comes to managing costly chronic diseases.”
With more than 25 years of experience, Barbara previously served as Vice President of Business Development at CareCentrix, a company that provides coordinated home-based care for tens of millions of health plan members. At CareCentrix, she was responsible for the development and execution of payer sales for national and regional payers. Prior to joining CareCentrix, Barbara worked with large strategic accounts (employers, payers, and healthcare systems) at Omada Health to launch digital therapeutics to those diagnosed as prediabetic. Before Omada, Barbara was responsible for partnering with large self-insured employers to launch the Castlight Health platform to manage healthcare spend for both the employer and the consumer.
“I’ve done extensive work to date to develop successful patient intervention programs for a wide range of companies — including health plans like Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. This work has provided me with the experience needed to drive a new era of growth for Podimetrics and its amputation-prevention technology and services,” said Barbara Greising, Chief Commercial Officer at Podimetrics. “Dr. Bloom and the entire team at Podimetrics are committed to the people they serve living with advanced diabetes, many of whom are minorities and who also face massive challenges such as access to affordable, healthy foods or a lack of transportation to doctor’s appointments. I am honored to join such a mission-driven organization.”
