NaphCare, Inc., a leading provider of correctional healthcare solutions, is excited to announce the successful implementation of its TechCare electronic health record (EHR) system for the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD). The system is now fully operational across 10 prisons statewide, serving a total of 5,700 residents. TechCare is NaphCare’s advanced, industry-leading EHR solution, tailored to address the specific healthcare needs of correctional populations.

NaphCare, Inc., a leading provider of correctional healthcare solutions, is proud to announce the full implementation of its TechCare electronic health record (EHR) system for the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD). This represents a significant milestone in the department’s transition from paper-based records to a more modern, efficient, and integrated approach to healthcare management. The system is now live across 10 NMCD facilities, serving a total of 5,700 residents.

For the first time, NMCD has introduced an electronic health record system to streamline healthcare delivery while meeting national standards of compliance. This shift to digital healthcare management aims to improve overall care quality and operational efficiency.

“We’re proud of this new service,” said NMCD Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero. “It is a significant step forward in improving healthcare services and equips our department to better meet the unique needs of those entrusted to our care.”

TechCare is designed to be fully integrated into NMCD’s existing systems. It connects seamlessly with offender management systems, pharmacy providers, laboratory and radiology services, immunization registries, and the New Mexico Health Information Exchange. In addition to the core EHR system, NaphCare is rolling out the MyCare Patient Portal, which will be accessible on resident tablets. This feature will enable real-time communication between healthcare staff and patients, making it easier for residents to manage their health needs.

This paperless system will improve access to medical and mental health services and ensure greater continuity of care for NMCD residents. It is designed to enhance health outcomes by providing healthcare staff with immediate access to vital information, reducing errors and delays.

“Our collaborative partnership with NMCD allowed for a very successful and timely deployment of the TechCare system,” said Byron Harrison, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for NaphCare. “We are extremely pleased with the results and are looking forward to upcoming enhancements to the platform, which will further the mission of NMCD and promote access to a higher standard of care for those they serve.”

TechCare is already implemented in 233 correctional facilities across the U.S., where it manages over 154,000 active patient records daily. With this addition of NMCD, TechCare continues to expand its reach in the correctional healthcare sector. The company has several other partnerships with state departments of corrections (DOCs), including those in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Montana, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Wyoming. These partnerships reflect the growing demand for integrated, efficient healthcare solutions in correctional settings.

The integration of the TechCare system not only enhances the quality of care for residents but also improves operational efficiency for NMCD staff. It eliminates the need for paper records, streamlines patient management, and ensures that healthcare providers have access to up-to-date patient information in real-time. The MyCare Patient Portal will further empower residents, giving them greater involvement in managing their own healthcare needs.
