MGA Homecare, a prominent provider of home and community-based physical and behavioral health services, has announced its acquisition of Ward Road Pharmacy (WRP), a Long-Term Care Pharmacy (LTCP) and Home Medical Supply (HMS) company located in Arvada, CO. This strategic partnership will bolster MGA’s capacity to serve medically complex patients, enhancing its offerings with improved pharmacy services, medical supplies, and integrated care solutions. WRP specializes in:
- Long-Term Pharmacy at Home (LTCPH) for medically complex physical and behavioral health patients, including individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Home Medical Supplies (HMS) like enteral formulas and pumps, tracheostomy supplies, incontinence products, and wound care supplies.
- Compounding Pharmacy Services to meet customized medication needs.
- Child Health Nutrition with elemental and specialty formula options.
This partnership responds to the growing demand for enhanced healthcare services. MGA currently serves 3,300 individuals in Colorado and over 5,500 patients daily across its six-state network. The acquisition of WRP aligns with MGA’s mission to meet patient needs by providing coordinated care solutions, medical supplies, and enhanced pharmacy services.
Brad Bennett, CEO of MGA, highlighted that the partnership was born out of feedback from patients and families who expressed frustrations over inconsistent access to medications and supplies. “MGA and WRP are proud to answer that call, bringing healthcare home and improving the quality of life for those we serve,” said Bennett.
A Strategic Platform for Improved Patient Outcomes
The integration of WRP into MGA’s services will provide several key benefits for patients and healthcare systems:
- Reducing Adverse Drug Interactions: The partnership aims to minimize preventable emergency department visits and hospitalizations by managing drug interactions in medically complex patients.
- Improved Access to Care: WRP’s services will enhance care for rural, remote, and underserved populations, ensuring broader healthcare access.
- Support for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD): The partnership strengthens MGA’s support for individuals with IDD and those needing medication-assisted treatments.
- Quality Measure Improvements: MGA will work closely with payers and health plans to improve Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) scores, Star Ratings, and other quality measures.
Lance Barnard, CEO and owner of WRP, will continue in his leadership role and spearhead the national expansion of MGA’s LTCP and HMS division. Barnard expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “We are excited to take our combined patient-centered model across the nation, delivering all levels of care and nearly every type of medical supply and medication required by complex patients.”
Alexandra Koloskus, MGA’s Chief Legal Officer, added, “We are committed to empowering individuals to thrive independently in their homes and communities. To achieve higher quality and less expensive healthcare, the focus must be on the patient, with coordinated care models that foster alignment among patients, families, payers, and healthcare providers.”
Edge Healthcare Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor, while ArentFox Schiff acted as MGA’s legal advisor during the acquisition.
