MEDITECH Genomics Integration Boosts Targeted Cancer Care at Frederick Health

Frederick Health (Frederick, MD) has introduced a groundbreaking integration that enhances decision support for clinicians treating cancer patients. By integrating MEDITECH’s Expanse Genomics solution with GenomOncology’s Precision Oncology Platform, Frederick Health can now offer clinicians tailored recommendations for therapies and clinical trials based on a patient’s unique genetic makeup, demographics, and other clinical data. This integration provides real-time access to key genetic information, such as mutational pathways, hotspot details, and interpretations, all embedded within the clinicians’ workflows, empowering them to deliver more precise care for each patient.

In the first six months, Frederick Health recorded 96 patients who received treatment changes based on the advanced, genetics-based recommendations offered through the platform. Clinicians can now easily select these treatments with confidence, knowing they are targeting the patient’s specific cancer genetics from the start, improving the chances of successful outcomes.
In addition to treatment changes, clinical trial referrals at Frederick Health have seen a remarkable surge. Within the first six months of using the integrated platform, there were 56 new referrals to Frederick Health’s clinical trials program. Before the platform’s implementation, the hospital averaged only two referrals per six-month period. The integration allows clinicians to identify clinical trials hosted by Frederick Health, enabling patients to access potentially life-saving treatments while continuing to receive care locally.

User satisfaction surveys indicated a 36% improvement in clinician satisfaction with selecting therapies and clinical trials, and a 33% improvement in satisfaction with the integration of tools used to make these decisions. These improvements reflect the system’s ability to streamline workflows and provide valuable, time-saving insights that ultimately enhance patient care.
