MATTER, a leading healthcare incubator and innovation hub, has been selected by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) as the Digital Health Hub for the BARDA Accelerator Network. BARDA, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, focuses on ensuring the nation is equipped with medical countermeasures to address health security threats.
The new Digital Health Hub, named Paratus (Latin for “ready for anything”), will focus on developing and validating innovative digital health solutions to enhance the nation’s preparedness for health security threats and improve clinical care. Paratus will launch a series of accelerators to support entrepreneurs working on relevant solutions, providing funding for technical and clinical validation. Entry into these accelerators and funding opportunities will be by application, with the first program launching in October 2024.

MATTER joins four other hubs in the BARDA Accelerator Network, each focusing on different areas of innovation. Alongside MATTER’s Digital Health Hub, other hubs include the Enabling Technologies Hub led by MedTech Innovator, focused on biomanufacturing and drug development; and the Special Populations Hub, led by Children’s National Hospital, focusing on pediatric health security. Additional hubs announced earlier in 2024 include I-CREATE, led by University Lab Partners, focusing on diagnostics and devices, and VITAL, led by Start2 Group, focused on vaccine and therapeutics innovation.
The BARDA Accelerator Network provides innovators and startups with comprehensive support, technical and business expertise, and resources to accelerate the development, validation, and commercialization of medical countermeasures.
