Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujii) (TOKYO: 4118) has opened its Tomatoh Manufacturing Site in the Tomakomai Tobu Area of Hokkaido, marking its seventh domestic business location and the first new site in 54 years. An opening ceremony was held on August 26 to celebrate this milestone aimed at portfolio transformation and business expansion.
The new medical device plant at Tomatoh Manufacturing Site will produce “Rheocarna™” adsorption-type blood purification devices and “Liposorber™” adsorption-type plasma purification devices. These devices target conditions such as arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO), a disease increasingly prevalent due to rising rates of diabetes, chronic renal failure, and other conditions worldwide. By establishing this new plant, Kaneka aims to secure a robust supply base and expand its medical business to meet growing global demand.
Designed as a “smart factory,” the plant utilizes robot technology to achieve full automation of its production lines. It also aims to become a “zero energy factory” by using photovoltaic modules to eliminate primary energy consumption, promoting sustainable manufacturing practices.
Kaneka plans to use the Tomatoh Manufacturing Site as a key production base for various business segments and to further expand its medical business. Guided by its mission, “KANEKA thinks ‘Wellness First’,” the company envisions a world where advanced medical care is accessible to all, contributing to global environmental innovation and everyday life improvements. From Tomakomai, “Kaneka, the Dream Factory” strives to make this vision a reality.
