This prestigious honor is bestowed each year by The Milestone Charitable Foundation on a distinguished group of trial lawyers nationwide who demonstrate innovation in their quest for justice.
The recipients of the Compassionate Counsel award are carefully chosen by The Milestone Foundation’s board for their steadfast dedication to upholding the principles of the Seventh Amendment and their belief in the fundamental right to justice. These trial lawyers go above and beyond to assist victims of civil injustices in obtaining fair compensation and preventing further harm or trauma during legal proceedings. They treat their clients with respect, advocate for fair funding and support, and prioritize their clients’ well-being long after the case is settled.

Holly Werkema leads the Pharmaceutical Litigation Group at Baron & Budd, where she represents clients and families affected by harmful prescription drugs and medical devices. She has a strong passion for holding pharmaceutical companies accountable for marketing unsafe products or misrepresenting their efficacy and safety. Throughout her career, Werkema has diligently represented clients in complex litigation involving prominent pharmaceutical companies.
