Heart Disease Awareness Raised with Free Heart & Kidney Screenings in Macon
Care Access, a health and research company, is offering residents of Macon, Georgia, the opportunity to participate in its Heart & Kidney Health Screening initiative. This program aims to raise awareness about the significant health risks associated with cardiovascular conditions and kidney disease, particularly highlighting a dangerous cholesterol type known as lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). Lp(a) is present in one in five people and is a key contributor to heart disease and stroke.
The health Disease screenings will be held from January 3 to 5 at the Anderson Conference Center, located at 5171 Eisenhower Parkway in Macon. During this time, residents will be able to receive vital health screenings at no cost, helping them understand their personal health risks, especially related to cardiovascular and kidney health.
Despite the high prevalence of elevated Lp(a) and its direct impact on heart health, many people are unaware of their Lp(a) levels due to limited access to testing. This lack of awareness is concerning, as Lp(a) is not impacted by a healthy diet or exercise, and no approved medications are available to lower its levels. As such, testing and education about this risk factor are crucial for improving community awareness and prevention efforts.
The Heart Disease & Kidney Health Screening offered by Care Access provides no-cost Lp(a) testing alongside screenings for additional health risks, including metabolic and kidney-related conditions.
