GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) today unveiled its latest innovations in radiation oncology at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) 2024 conference in Washington, DC. These cutting-edge solutions are designed to enhance the entire radiation therapy workflow for both clinicians and cancer patients.
“Each year, an estimated 470,000 patients in the U.S. undergo radiotherapy, with more than half of all cancer patients receiving this treatment. Recent advancements in diagnosis, therapy, and supportive care have led to an increase in cancer survivors. At the ASTRO 2024 conference in Washington, DC, GE HealthCare is showcasing innovations designed to streamline the oncology care pathway, reducing the time from diagnosis to treatment, which is vital for improving patient outcomes.
GE HealthCare will highlight the following radiation oncology solutions at ASTRO 2024:
- Intelligent Radiation Therapy (iRT): This AI-enhanced solution enables seamless interoperability across multi-vendor systems, connecting hardware, software, and applications into a single, intuitive interface to optimize the radiation oncology care continuum.
- Revolution™ RT: A newly introduced system that offers precision radiation therapy simulation with a wide-bore CT platform and enhanced capabilities, now integrated with GE HealthCare’s MIM Software solutions.
- MIM Maestro and Contour ProtégéAI+: A suite of interoperable technologies from MIM Software, acquired by GE HealthCare in April 2024. These include Contour ProtégéAI+ for AI auto-contouring and MIM Maestro for faster simulation-to-treatment times and better target volumes.
- Prostate Volume Assist: AI software on ultrasound-guided imaging systems that automates prostate volume measurements.
- StarGuide™: A digital SPECT/CT system that enables personalized care decisions and treatment response assessments, central to Theranostics, which integrates cancer treatment with diagnostic tools for precise monitoring.
Dr. Ben Newton, GE HealthCare’s general manager for Oncology Solutions, emphasized the importance of innovation in solving radiation oncology’s biggest challenges. “Our portfolio of deep learning-based, interoperable solutions spans from pre-treatment planning to post-treatment imaging, featuring AI-enhanced technologies that connect and optimize workflows, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care.”
Intelligent Radiation Therapy (iRT)
Globally adopted by top healthcare institutions, iRT streamlines the workflow for radiation therapy patients. Its multi-vendor data orchestration capabilities standardize complex processes, potentially shortening the time to treatment. The enhanced iRT solution now includes features like Instaplan (in collaboration with RaySearch), which creates treatment plans while the patient is still on the simulation table, and MR Direct (with Spectronic Medical), which uses AI to convert MR simulation images into CT-equivalent images for dose calculation. The iRT platform also incorporates Simplified Planning, enabling advanced interoperability and automated pre-treatment planning steps.
At ASTRO 2024, GE HealthCare and MIM Software will host two lunch symposiums:
- “Data-Enhanced Strategies in Improving Radiation Therapy Outcomes” on September 29 at 12pm EST.
- “Reducing Time to Treatment with MIM Software” on October 1 at 12pm EST.
