Fresenius Kabi and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) have announced the start of the 19th annual Blood Collectors Week, taking place from September 1 to September 7, 2024. This week celebrates the dedicated professionals who make blood collection possible, including phlebotomists, apheresis operators, medical directors, donor recruiters, technicians, and drivers. Their crucial work bridges the gap between blood donors and patients in need of lifesaving blood for optimal medical care.
Blood Collectors Week is an annual event co-created and sponsored by AABB, an international association for professionals in transfusion medicine and biotherapies, and Fresenius Kabi, a global healthcare company specializing in pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, clinical nutrition, and medical technologies.
“For 19 years, we have celebrated the selfless individuals dedicated to blood collection and donation,” said Eddie Kubo, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Transfusion and Cell Therapies in North America and China at Fresenius Kabi. “This week, we honor their voices and commitment. Managing the blood collection process demands precision, quality, safety, and care—it’s essential to safeguarding the nation’s blood supply. Blood collection professionals truly deserve our gratitude, and this week is a tribute to their crucial work.”
Nearly 300 blood centers across the U.S. are expected to host events recognizing local collectors for their dedication to patient health and safety. For a list of participating centers, click here.
