EyeCare Partners to Showcase Expertise and Research at AAO 2025 in Orlando

EyeCare Partners Takes Center Stage at the 2025 American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting

EyeCare Partners (ECP), the nation’s foremost provider of clinically integrated eye care, is proud to announce its robust participation in the 2025 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting, taking place from Friday, October 17, through Monday, October 20, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. As the premier gathering of ophthalmologists, researchers, and industry leaders from around the globe, the AAO meeting serves as a dynamic forum for exchanging groundbreaking ideas, showcasing cutting-edge innovations, and charting the future of medical and surgical eye care. ECP’s presence this year underscores its leadership role in advancing clinical excellence, research, and patient-centered care across the United States.

This year’s theme—centered on innovation, collaboration, and the relentless pursuit of better outcomes—resonates deeply with ECP’s mission. Physicians from across the EyeCare Partners network will be featured in a wide array of presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions, offering insights into the latest advancements in cataract surgery, corneal disease management, vitreoretinal techniques, neuro-ophthalmology, and trauma response. Their contributions reflect not only individual expertise but also the collective strength of a national network committed to elevating the standard of eye care in 18 states.

“The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting is a hallmark event for innovation and knowledge sharing in eye care,” said Daniel Miller, M.D., Ph.D., Ophthalmology Division President and Executive Medical Officer at EyeCare Partners. “We’re proud to contribute to this dynamic exchange, demonstrating how our network’s dedication is elevating visionary care for patients across the U.S. Our doctors are demonstrating world-class expertise and skills that we bring to our local communities across 18 states where we operate.”

Dr. Miller emphasized that ECP’s participation is more than just representation—it’s a reflection of the organization’s deep investment in clinical research, physician development, and technological integration. By fostering a culture where clinicians are empowered to lead, innovate, and share their findings, ECP ensures that advances made in academic settings are rapidly translated into real-world benefits for patients in communities large and small.

Highlighting Clinical Excellence and Innovation

Among the standout presentations by ECP-affiliated physicians is “Cataract Surgical Crises — Managing the Eye and the Stress: Part II: AC Shallowing,” led by Michael E. Snyder, M.D., of the Cincinnati Eye Institute. This session builds on critical intraoperative challenges that can arise during cataract surgery, offering practical strategies for managing anterior chamber (AC) shallowing—a complication that, if not addressed promptly, can lead to serious visual outcomes. Dr. Snyder’s presentation will provide attendees with actionable insights drawn from real-world surgical experience, emphasizing both technical proficiency and crisis management under pressure.

In the realm of corneal disease, Albert Y. Cheung, M.D., of Virginia Eye Consultants, will present “Conquering Corneal Neovascularization: Old and New Strategies for Success.” Corneal neovascularization—abnormal blood vessel growth into the normally avascular cornea—remains a significant cause of vision loss and transplant failure. Dr. Cheung’s session will explore both established therapeutic approaches and emerging modalities, including anti-VEGF therapies, laser interventions, and novel pharmacologic agents, offering a comprehensive roadmap for managing this complex condition.

Trauma care is another critical area where ECP physicians are making an impact. Joshua R. Roe, M.D., of the Eye Institute of West Florida, will lead “Damage Control Ophthalmology: Ocular Trauma for the Ophthalmologist on Call.” This session addresses the urgent, high-stakes decisions required when managing ocular injuries in emergency settings. Dr. Roe will share protocols for rapid assessment, stabilization, and triage, ensuring that even ophthalmologists without subspecialty trauma training can provide life- and vision-saving interventions during on-call emergencies.

Neuro-ophthalmology, a field that bridges neurology and eye care, will also be represented through the work of Kevin E. Lai, M.D., also of the Cincinnati Eye Institute. His contribution to “Section II: Neuro-Ophthalmology Meets Ophthalmology” will explore the intersection of systemic neurological conditions and visual symptoms, highlighting diagnostic challenges and collaborative management strategies that improve patient outcomes.

Further advancing the frontiers of retinal surgery, John W. Kitchens, M.D., of Retina Associates of Kentucky, will present “Section VI: Vitreoretinal Surgery, Part I: Transitioning to Flow-Based Vitrectomy: Pearls and Pitfalls.” As vitrectomy techniques evolve toward more precise, fluid-dynamics-driven approaches, Dr. Kitchens will offer practical guidance on adopting these innovations while avoiding common technical errors. His session is expected to be particularly valuable for surgeons looking to enhance safety and efficacy in complex retinal procedures.

A Culture of Research and Collaboration

“Advancing eye care through research and innovation is central to EyeCare Partners,” said Antonio Capone Jr., M.D., Chief Clinical Officer. “Our physicians are driving meaningful discoveries that shape the future of ophthalmology and improve patient outcomes. The depth of our participation at the AAO 2025 Annual Meeting underscores our leadership in clinical research and our commitment to elevating the standard of care for patients everywhere.”

Dr. Capone noted that ECP’s integrated model—combining clinical practice, research infrastructure, and data analytics—creates a fertile environment for discovery. By supporting physician-led studies, facilitating multi-center collaborations, and investing in next-generation technologies, ECP ensures that its clinicians remain at the forefront of their fields.

This year’s AAO participation is not limited to formal presentations. ECP will also showcase its commitment to innovation and partnership at Booth #3143 in the exhibit hall. Attendees are invited to stop by to engage directly with ECP leaders, learn about the organization’s clinical initiatives, and explore how its integrated care model is transforming patient outcomes through standardized protocols, advanced surgical platforms, and robust quality assurance programs.
