Desktop Health® Validates Flexcera® Smile Ultra+ Resin for All-on-X Implant Provisionals

Desktop Health, a leading brand in production-grade medical 3D printing from Desktop Metal, Inc. (NYSE: DM), has validated its Flexcera® Smile Ultra+ resin for use in dental implantology, specifically for All-on-X implant provisionals.

Flexcera Smile Ultra+ is already FDA (510)k cleared, MDR certified, and CE marked for a range of 3D printed dental restoratives, including crowns, bridges, and dentures. It is now also approved for implant-supported denture provisionals, commonly known as “All-on-X” prosthetics, where the “X” denotes the number of implants supporting the denture.

As All-on-X provisionals gain popularity among implant specialists and dental labs due to advances in intraoral scanning and CAD technology, Flexcera Smile Ultra+ offers an efficient solution. Available in six natural tooth shades and two bottle sizes, this versatile material prints quickly and accurately, providing patients with aesthetically pleasing and functional temporary smiles as they await their final restoration.

Flexcera Smile Ultra+ is cost-effective, with a single kilogram bottle capable of producing up to 50 All-on-X arches, allowing dental professionals to create multiple copies and tailor shades for personalized patient care.

The resin is validated for use with several dental printers, including:

  • Desktop Health® Einstein, Einstein Pro XL, EnvisionOne, and D4K
  • Asiga® Max UV, Max 2, Ultra, and Pro 4K
  • Carbon® M series dental 3D printers

Print times for a full set of Flexcera Smile Ultra+ arches range from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the printer and case requirements.

Flexcera’s Impact on All-on-X Solutions

Dental labs and practitioners report significant benefits from using Flexcera provisionals. Frankie Acosta, Owner and Dental Technician at AA Dental Design, notes, “Flexcera Smile Ultra+ on the Einstein printer is fast, accurate, and easy to finish, providing great results for our digital dentistry clients.”

Dr. Rami Jandali, a board-certified Prosthodontist at Amazing Smiles, highlights the transformative impact: “Offering same-day chairside printing with Desktop Health’s 3D printing workflows allows us to change lives by giving patients fully functioning teeth in a single visit.”

Dr. Bruce Smoler of Smoler Smiles also praises the technology: “The patient experience is significantly enhanced with Flexcera. The rapid turnaround and immediate case previews have increased our acceptance rates by 50% for full arch cases and 20% for single-unit crowns.”
