Community Health Network Names Dr. Patrick McGill as President and CEO, Marking a New Era of Mission-Driven Leadership
Community Health Network has announced the appointment of Patrick McGill, MD, as its next President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026. The selection follows a comprehensive national search and a rigorous evaluation process led by the organization’s Board of Directors. Dr. McGill, a board-certified family medicine physician and accomplished healthcare executive, brings over two decades of clinical and administrative experience to the role—making him a uniquely qualified leader to guide Community Health Network into its next chapter of growth, innovation, and community impact.
Dr. McGill currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at Community Health Network, where he has spearheaded system-wide initiatives in digital transformation, data analytics, population health, personalized medicine, health equity, and value-based care. His deep institutional knowledge, combined with his strategic foresight and unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission, positioned him as the standout candidate among a highly competitive national pool.
“After an extensive and thoughtful search, we are pleased to appoint a leader who already understands and embodies the mission, values, and culture of Community Health Network,” said Rafael A. Sanchez, Chair of the Board of Directors. “The Board considered candidates from across the country, and Dr. McGill emerged as the clear choice to lead us forward. His clinical expertise, strategic vision, and deep commitment to innovation and equity make him uniquely qualified to serve as CEO.”
Dr. McGill’s appointment represents both continuity and evolution for the Central Indiana-based health system. He succeeds Bryan Mills, who announced his retirement earlier this year after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Under Mills’ leadership, Community Health Network expanded its footprint, enhanced access to high-quality care, and solidified its reputation as a trusted, community-centered provider across the region. Dr. McGill now steps into this legacy with a clear mandate: to build upon that foundation while accelerating innovation in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
“I am honored and humbled to step into the role of President and CEO,” Dr. McGill said. “Community Health Network is more than a healthcare system. It’s a mission-driven organization rooted in compassion, innovation, and service. I look forward to working with our exceptional team to build on our legacy and shape the future of care for the communities we serve.”
A native of Indiana, Dr. McGill’s journey in medicine began with a strong commitment to primary care and community health. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his family medicine residency at Ball Memorial Hospital—a Community Health Network affiliate—laying the groundwork for a career deeply intertwined with the organization’s values. Over the past 20 years, he has held numerous leadership roles within the system, consistently focusing on improving clinical workflows, advancing team-based care models, and driving measurable quality improvements that directly benefit patients.
In addition to his clinical credentials, Dr. McGill holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in data analytics from the University of Southern Indiana and is currently pursuing a doctorate in healthcare administration. This blend of clinical insight and business acumen has enabled him to bridge the gap between bedside care and system-wide strategy—a critical skill in today’s value-based, data-driven healthcare environment.
His leadership as Chief Transformation Officer has been instrumental in modernizing Community Health Network’s infrastructure. Under his guidance, the organization has invested heavily in digital health tools, interoperable data systems, and predictive analytics to better anticipate patient needs and close care gaps. He has also championed initiatives to advance health equity, ensuring that underserved populations receive not just access to care, but culturally competent, personalized support that addresses social determinants of health.
Dr. McGill’s influence extends beyond the walls of Community Health Network. He serves on the boards of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE)—one of the nation’s oldest and most successful health information exchanges—and SIHO Insurance Services, where he contributes to statewide efforts to improve data sharing, care coordination, and affordability. His national recognition includes being named by Becker’s Hospital Review as an “Inspiring Chief Transformation Officer” in 2022, 2023, and 2024—an acknowledgment of his forward-thinking leadership and ability to drive systemic change.
As CEO, Dr. McGill is expected to prioritize several key strategic pillars: strengthening primary care as the cornerstone of the health system, expanding behavioral health integration, advancing health equity through targeted community partnerships, and leveraging technology to create seamless, patient-centered experiences. He has also emphasized the importance of workforce development, noting that attracting, retaining, and empowering compassionate caregivers is essential to sustaining Community Health Network’s mission.
The transition comes at a pivotal moment for healthcare in Indiana and across the U.S. Rising costs, workforce shortages, increasing demand for mental health services, and persistent disparities in care access require bold, adaptive leadership. Dr. McGill’s dual identity—as both a practicing physician and a transformational executive—positions him to navigate these challenges with empathy and effectiveness.
The Board of Directors expressed confidence that Dr. McGill’s leadership will ensure Community Health Network remains not only financially resilient but also deeply connected to the communities it serves. “Patrick doesn’t just manage a healthcare system—he lives its values,” said Sanchez. “He understands that every decision we make impacts real people in our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. That perspective is irreplaceable.”
As he prepares to assume the CEO role on January 1, 2026, Dr. McGill has already begun engaging with frontline staff, community leaders, and strategic partners to listen, learn, and co-create a shared vision for the future. His message is clear: Community Health Network will continue to grow—but always with compassion, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to serving all, especially the most vulnerable.
In naming Dr. Patrick McGill as its next President and CEO, Community Health Network affirms its belief that the best leaders are those who rise from within—guided by purpose, shaped by experience, and driven by a profound sense of service. The organization now looks ahead to a future defined not just by clinical excellence, but by human connection, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the health of Central Indiana.
