Carilion Clinic Enhances Cardiac Care with New Philips Innovations at Crystal Spring Tower

Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, and Carilion Clinic, a nonprofit healthcare provider serving over one million people in Virginia and West Virginia, have announced a major collaboration. Carilion Clinic will implement Philips’ comprehensive cardiovascular care solutions at its new Cardiovascular Institute located at Crystal Spring Tower. The institute will feature 11 advanced Philips interventional suites, enabling physicians to address complex cardiovascular conditions locally. This investment underscores Carilion’s dedication to equipping its clinicians with cutting-edge technology to enhance care quality and improve overall cardiovascular service performance.

Carilion Clinic, renowned for its extensive hospital network, primary and specialty care, and other services, is set to relocate its Cardiovascular Institute to a new facility at Crystal Spring Tower. The flagship Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with 718 beds, will now host the institute, offering advanced heart, lung, and vascular care including inpatient nursing, cardiovascular ORs, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology labs.

The Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital serves as the major referral center and only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, equipped with the sole hybrid operating rooms in Southwest Virginia. With the integration of Philips’ latest technology, the facility’s expert medical staff will continue to handle complex cases not available at nearby healthcare centers.

Marguerite Underwood, Vice President of the Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute, emphasized, “At Carilion Clinic, our goal is to enhance community health through collaboration. Partnering with Philips will help us set new standards in cardiovascular care now and in the future.”

The new Philips-equipped labs will feature the Philips Azurion Image-Guided Therapy System, the EPIQ CVx cardiology ultrasound system with AI capabilities, and IntraSight with SyncVision for IVUS imaging and physiology. This technology offers exceptional imaging with lower X-ray doses, improved workflow, and more efficient turnaround times, along with ongoing clinical education and a service program to keep systems updated.

Jeff DiLullo, Chief Region Leader at Philips North America, noted, “Carilion’s dedication to exceptional cardiac care drives continuous innovation. The expansion at Crystal Spring Tower reflects Carilion’s commitment to providing its staff and patients with world-class technology and unparalleled care.”
