Burjeel Holdings Names 120 Health Ambassadors in Celebration of the UAE Year of Family

As the United Arab Emirates prepares to commemorate the 54th Eid Al Etihad and welcome the upcoming Year of Family, Burjeel Holdings—the region’s leading super-specialty healthcare provider—has unveiled a major community-focused initiative designed to elevate public health engagement across the nation. Reflecting its long-standing commitment to supporting national priorities and empowering Emirati talent, the Group has launched the Health Ambassadors Program, a pioneering platform that places Emirati professionals at the forefront of community health awareness and family-centric well-being.

This year’s initiative builds on the notable success of Burjeel Holdings’ highly regarded Etihad Ambassadors Program, “I Am 53, I Am the Future,” which was launched in 2023 to celebrate national identity, strengthen community connections, and highlight the contributions of Emirati youth. Inspired by its positive public reception and impact, the Group sought to broaden its goals, focusing more deeply on family health, preventive care, and accessible community engagement—core themes that align closely with the national vision for the Year of Family.

Under the newly launched program, 120 Emirati employees from Burjeel Holdings have been appointed as Health Ambassadors. These individuals were selected from a diverse range of hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities within the Group across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, and Sharjah. Their selection represents a cross-section of clinical and non-clinical talent with the passion, commitment, and cultural insight needed to effectively communicate with families, understand community needs, and promote positive health behaviors.

Role and Responsibilities of the Health Ambassadors

In their new roles, the Health Ambassadors will act as accessible, trusted liaisons between medical institutions and the communities they serve. Their mission includes:

  • Raising awareness about preventive healthcare, including early detection and lifestyle practices that reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
  • Guiding families toward essential health and wellness programs, ensuring they are better informed about the services and resources available to them.
  • Connecting community members with specialists and medical expertise, helping to close gaps in understanding and access.
  • Promoting health literacy, particularly in areas that directly support family stability and long-term well-being.

A major focus of the Ambassadors’ mandate is to support and uplift community knowledge in priority areas highlighted by the UAE’s health leadership. These include:

  • Fertility, reproductive health, and maternal wellness
  • Mental health support across age groups
  • Cancer awareness, screening, and early diagnosis
  • Managing chronic conditions within families
  • Overall family-centered care, including support for elderly members and children

To ensure they can carry out their responsibilities effectively, each selected Ambassador will undergo specialized upskilling and training programs. These sessions will be designed and conducted by experts from across Burjeel Holdings, supplemented by external guidance from leading professionals in health promotion, communication, and community engagement. The upskilling initiative will equip Ambassadors with the knowledge and tools needed to support families, provide accurate medical guidance, and strengthen collective community well-being.

Launch Ceremony and National Support

The Health Ambassadors took a formal oath of commitment to serve the community during an official launch ceremony held in Abu Dhabi. The event brought together several senior leaders from the healthcare sector, government institutions, and Burjeel Holdings, underscoring the national significance of the initiative.

The ceremony was attended by:

  • Her Excellency Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi
  • His Excellency Khaled Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Federal Youth Authority
  • Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings
  • Omran Al Khoori, Board Member of Burjeel Holdings
  • John Sunil, CEO of Burjeel Holdings
  • Dr. Tahani Al Qadri, Director of Emiratization and Academic Affairs
  • Various medical and administrative leaders from across the Group

In her remarks, Her Excellency Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi highlighted the rapid development of the UAE’s healthcare system at both the emirate and federal levels. She emphasized that the Department of Health continues to focus on three core pillars: empowering the community and raising awareness, attracting and nurturing top healthcare talent, and advancing research and innovation.

She pointed to national initiatives such as the Emirati Genome Project, which has elevated the UAE’s global position in preventive medicine and precision diagnostics. Such transformative projects, she noted, illustrate the country’s dedication to using science and technology to enhance health outcomes for citizens and residents alike. Her Excellency also reiterated the Department’s support for programs that strengthen public trust, enhance patient experience, and raise the overall quality of healthcare services—goals that closely align with the mission of the Health Ambassadors Program.

Burjeel Holdings’ Commitment to National Talent and Community Health

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, emphasized that the launch of the Health Ambassadors Program comes at a meaningful moment as the UAE celebrates its unity and prepares for the Year of Family. He noted that families are the foundation of society, and strengthening their health, stability, and well-being is a national priority that requires collaborative effort, long-term investment, and proactive engagement.

He added that placing trained Emirati Health Ambassadors within communities helps ensure that families receive guidance from trusted individuals who understand their culture, values, and needs. The program, he explained, reflects the Group’s broader commitment to investing in Emirati talent, developing the next generation of healthcare leaders, and supporting the UAE’s vision for a healthy, educated, and empowered society.

The initiative also aligns with Burjeel Holdings’ long-term Emiratization strategy, which aims to expand opportunities for UAE nationals across the healthcare sector—not only in medical and technical roles but also in leadership positions that shape policy, drive innovation, and enhance community well-being.

A Future-Focused Initiative for a Healthier UAE

The launch of the Health Ambassadors Program marks a significant step forward in community health engagement within the UAE. By combining the passion of Emirati professionals, the expertise of medical specialists, and the national focus on family and well-being, Burjeel Holdings is helping to build a stronger ecosystem where families have the support, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive.

As the UAE looks ahead to the Year of Family, this initiative promises to play a vital role in fostering healthier communities, empowering national talent, and reinforcing the country’s commitment to preventive care and long-term well-being. Through the efforts of the 120 Health Ambassadors, countless families will have easier access to health education, improved pathways to care, and greater confidence in making informed decisions for their future.
