Ardent Health Appoints Dave Caspers as President and CEO, Reaffirms 2026 Financial Outlook
Ardent Health, a leading healthcare provider serving growing mid-sized urban communities across the United States, has announced the appointment of Dave Caspers as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Caspers succeeds Marty Bonick, who has stepped down from his role to pursue other professional opportunities. In addition to assuming the chief executive position, Caspers has also been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.
The leadership transition marks a significant milestone for Ardent Health as the organization continues to focus on operational excellence, growth initiatives, and long-term value creation. Company leaders emphasized that the change is designed to position Ardent Health for its next phase of development, building upon the strong operational and strategic foundation established during Bonick’s tenure.
Leadership Transition Focused on Operational Excellence
Announcing the appointment, Mark Sotir, Chairman of the Ardent Health Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Caspers’ ability to lead the organization through its next chapter.
According to Sotir, Caspers brings decades of operational leadership experience and possesses a deep understanding of the company’s mission, strategy, and commitment to delivering quality healthcare. The Board believes his extensive background in healthcare operations and performance improvement will support Ardent Health’s continued transformation while strengthening execution across its network.
The leadership transition comes at a time when healthcare organizations across the country are navigating evolving market dynamics, workforce challenges, and increasing pressure to improve efficiency while maintaining high standards of patient care. Ardent Health believes Caspers’ operational expertise makes him uniquely qualified to guide the company through these challenges while identifying new growth opportunities.
Building on a Strong Foundation
The company noted that the appointment reflects a broader strategic focus on enhancing operational performance, expanding access to quality healthcare services, and ensuring sustainable long-term growth.
Under the leadership of outgoing CEO Marty Bonick, Ardent Health achieved several significant milestones, including successfully navigating the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing operational improvements, and completing its initial public offering. These accomplishments helped strengthen the company’s market position and created a foundation for future expansion.
Company officials highlighted that Bonick played a critical role in shaping Ardent Health’s modern transformation strategy and positioning the organization for continued growth. His leadership helped guide the company through a period of substantial change while maintaining a strong commitment to patients, healthcare providers, employees, and the communities served by the organization.
The Board expressed gratitude for Bonick’s contributions and acknowledged the lasting impact of his leadership on the company’s culture, operational structure, and strategic direction.
Dave Caspers Brings Extensive Healthcare Leadership Experience
Caspers joined Ardent Health in March 2025 as Chief Operating Officer and quickly became a key leader in advancing the company’s strategic priorities. During his time as COO, he oversaw numerous operational initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening financial performance, and accelerating organizational growth.
One of the major programs under his leadership has been the company’s IMPACT initiative, a comprehensive effort designed to improve margins, increase organizational agility, enhance operational performance, and support care transformation across the enterprise. The program has become a central component of Ardent Health’s strategy to adapt to changing healthcare market conditions while maintaining a strong focus on patient outcomes.
Before joining Ardent Health, Caspers accumulated extensive leadership experience across healthcare systems, retail healthcare organizations, and consumer-focused healthcare operations.
Most recently, he held senior leadership responsibilities at Walmart Health, where he managed large-scale healthcare operations and oversaw omnichannel care delivery models. His responsibilities included leadership of in-store clinics, virtual healthcare services, and other initiatives designed to improve healthcare accessibility and convenience for patients.
Prior to Walmart Health, Caspers served in leadership positions at Banner Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit healthcare systems. During his tenure, he directed the design, scaling, optimization, and improvement of operations across an extensive network that included 30 hospitals, approximately 350 clinics, and 60 urgent care centers. His experience managing complex healthcare environments and driving operational improvements is expected to support Ardent Health’s ongoing transformation efforts.
Earlier in his career, Caspers also led retail healthcare operations at Target Corporation, further strengthening his expertise in healthcare delivery models that combine patient access, convenience, and operational efficiency.
Vision for the Future
In his first remarks as President and CEO, Caspers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization and emphasized his commitment to building upon the company’s recent successes.
He noted that working alongside Bonick over the past year provided valuable insight into the company’s culture, mission, and strategic priorities. Caspers praised the foundation established under Bonick’s leadership and stated that Ardent Health is well-positioned to accelerate its next phase of growth.
Looking ahead, he highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong focus on operational execution, innovation, and high-quality patient care. He also emphasized the critical role played by Ardent Health’s workforce, describing the company’s employees and healthcare professionals as key drivers of future success.
Caspers indicated that the organization will continue pursuing opportunities to improve patient experiences, strengthen healthcare access, and support the communities it serves while delivering sustainable value for stakeholders.
Financial Outlook Remains Unchanged
Alongside the leadership announcement, Ardent Health reaffirmed its full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance, signaling confidence in its overall financial strategy despite recent market challenges.
Chief Financial Officer Alfred Lumsdaine acknowledged that the company experienced softer patient volumes across portions of its portfolio during the second quarter. However, he noted that management has responded proactively by implementing targeted operational measures and accelerating key performance improvement initiatives.
Among these efforts is the expansion of the IMPACT program, which is intended to drive greater efficiency, improve financial performance, and enhance operational agility throughout the organization.
Lumsdaine stated that, based on the actions already taken and the company’s assessment of current market conditions, Ardent Health continues to expect full-year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA to fall within its previously announced range of $485 million to $535 million.
The reaffirmation of guidance reflects management’s confidence in the organization’s ability to navigate near-term industry pressures while maintaining financial discipline and advancing strategic priorities.
Positioned for Continued Growth
Healthcare providers across the United States continue to face a variety of challenges, including workforce shortages, rising costs, evolving reimbursement models, and increasing demand for accessible care. Against this backdrop, Ardent Health believes its focus on operational efficiency, disciplined execution, and patient-centered care will help differentiate the organization in a competitive marketplace.
The company’s leadership transition is viewed as a strategic step toward ensuring continuity while also bringing fresh operational expertise to support future growth initiatives. By leveraging Caspers’ extensive healthcare management experience, Ardent Health aims to strengthen performance across its network and continue advancing its mission of improving healthcare for patients, providers, employees, and communities.
As the organization enters its next chapter, company leaders remain focused on delivering high-quality care, expanding access to healthcare services, enhancing operational effectiveness, and generating sustainable long-term value. With a renewed emphasis on execution and transformation, Ardent Health believes it is well-positioned to build on its recent accomplishments and pursue continued growth in the years ahead.
