Alaska Behavioral Health Partners with Netsmart for Integrated Healthcare
Netsmart has announced that Alaska Behavioral Health (AKBH), the premier provider of mental health services in Alaska, has chosen the Netsmart CareFabric® platform to optimize clinical, financial, and operational efficiencies across its 11 statewide facilities. As part of this partnership, AKBH will also be one of the first providers to implement Bells Virtual Scribe, an AI-powered clinical documentation solution that utilizes ambient listening to generate accurate EHR records in near real-time, streamlining the documentation process.
Alaska Behavioral Health (AKBH), the leading provider of mental health services in Alaska, has partnered with Netsmart to enhance its care model and streamline operations across its 11 statewide facilities. This collaboration will help AKBH leverage the advanced Netsmart CareFabric® platform to optimize clinical, financial, and operational efficiencies while improving the quality of care it provides to individuals. AKBH will also become one of the first organizations to implement Bells Virtual Scribe, an AI-powered clinical documentation solution designed to simplify the documentation process by generating accurate records in real-time.
“We are excited to collaborate with Netsmart to leverage an advanced technology platform to achieve true integrated care delivery to improve our care model and streamline operations,” said Jim Myers, CEO of Alaska Behavioral Health. “Using data allows us to identify and address community needs while improving our services as a CCBHC, offering integrated clinical, psychiatric, and primary care. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing comprehensive and accessible behavioral health services across Alaska.”
As part of this collaboration, AKBH will implement myAvatar™, an ONC-certified electronic health record (EHR) system specifically designed to integrate physical, behavioral, and social health. The platform will support the organization in streamlining administrative tasks, enhancing documentation accuracy, and improving care coordination across various service areas. By integrating this comprehensive suite of solutions from Netsmart, AKBH aims to optimize care delivery and drive positive outcomes for its patients.

AKBH offers a wide range of services, including child and family treatment, programs for teens and young adults, residential treatment, intensive community-based care, 24/7 mobile crisis care, partial hospitalization, integrated psychiatry and primary care, and medication management.
The integration of technology that supports the CCBHC (Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic) model will enable AKBH to enhance interoperability, improve care coordination, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), aligning with the organization’s goals of delivering comprehensive care across the state.
Additionally, AKBH will incorporate several solutions from the CareFabric platform to further streamline operations and improve service delivery. Among these solutions is myHealthPointe™, a client portal that allows individuals to engage actively in their care. Through the portal, clients can access their health information, schedule appointments, and securely communicate with their providers. This tool aims to empower patients by offering them a more direct role in managing their health and treatment plans.
Bells, the AI-powered clinical coach, will also be implemented to assist with clinical documentation. This innovative tool helps reduce documentation time by up to 60%, which not only improves the efficiency of providers but also enhances the overall quality of care. By reducing the time spent on administrative tasks, AKBH’s clinicians will be able to focus more on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
“At Netsmart, we understand the importance of integrated care and are equipped to provide a platform that meets the diverse needs of the communities we serve alongside primary care services,” said Kevin Mallot, SVP & GM of Human Services at Netsmart. “Alaska Behavioral Health is at the forefront of this movement, recognizing that healthcare technology is essential for effective care coordination and near real-time data to support whole-person care. We look forward to collaborating with Alaska Behavioral Health and supporting their mission to strengthen communities and improve the lives of those they serve through exceptional and accessible care.”
