Cardinal Health recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Scientific Services Chemistry Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts. This state-of-the-art, FDA-regulated laboratory spans nearly 26,000 square feet and is designed to accelerate product development, enhance manufacturing efficiency, and ensure top-tier regulatory compliance. The center will provide a wide range of testing services, from routine quality control to advanced research, ensuring all products meet the highest standards for safety and efficacy.
By adhering to industry standards and FDA approval through the Accreditation Scheme for Conformity Assessment (ASCA), Cardinal Health guarantees rigorous testing of both self-manufactured and contract-manufactured products before they reach the market. Initially focused on chemical characterization, a key step in assessing the safety of medical devices, the center will expand its capabilities to include pharmaceutical stability and microbiology testing.
“This Chemistry Center is a significant milestone in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficacy,” said Kelley Moffett, Senior Vice President, Quality, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs. “It’s a vital step in delivering the highest-quality medical products to our customers.”
Key Benefits of In-House Testing
The new lab offers several advantages, including improved efficiency and faster turnaround times. By managing the testing process internally, Cardinal Health can streamline production and ensure products reach the market more quickly, with greater quality assurance. This also enables faster action on testing results, leading to improved market responsiveness and cost savings, which can be reinvested into further research and development.
Supporting Product Growth and Supply Chain Resilience
The Chemistry Center plays a critical role in Cardinal Health’s growing product portfolio. It will support supply chain resiliency by analyzing raw materials, reducing costs with internal compliance testing, and facilitating next-generation sterilization techniques. These efforts are aligned with Cardinal Health’s broader goal to expand its market offerings while maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity.
“The opening of this Chemistry Center is more than just a new facility – it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction,” said John Iannone, Director of Scientific Services. “This lab lays the foundation for us to lead the industry in comprehensive product development, always with quality at the forefront.”
