Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN), a leading global medical device company known for its Invisalign® clear aligners, iTero™ intraoral scanners, and exocad™ CAD/CAM software for restorative dentistry, has announced the launch of the latest version of its Invisalign Smile Architect software. This new release includes Multiple Treatment Plans, enabling doctors to visually compare and modify orthodontic and ortho-restorative treatment plans side-by-side. These features are integrated into the ClinCheck® treatment planning software, allowing practitioners to review and select the best treatment option for each patient.
During an office visit, doctors can use the iTero scanner to visually demonstrate both ortho-only and ortho-restorative treatment simulations. They can also submit patient records to utilize the features of the Invisalign Smile Architect to create a personalized ClinCheck™ treatment plan tailored for each patient, whether for orthodontics alone or combined with restorative care.
Ortho-restorative treatment presents a significant opportunity for dental practitioners, allowing them to integrate the benefits of the Invisalign System with restorative techniques. This approach enables patients to explore various treatment options to enhance their smiles, using a tooth mass analysis tool that shows minimal tooth reduction through the Invisalign Smile Architect ortho-restorative software.
“Invisalign Smile Architect with Multiple Treatment Plans was designed to help doctors educate patients about their treatment options, leading to more informed decisions and ultimately fostering practice growth,” said Sreelakshmi Kolli, Chief Product and Digital Officer at Align Technology. “The advanced visual comparison tools within the software enable general dentists to effectively communicate treatment options that merge orthodontic and restorative procedures, supporting both doctors and patients in achieving their treatment goals.”
The new software integrates with the Align™ Digital Platform, a cohesive combination of software, systems, and services that streamlines workflows for all users—doctors, labs, patients, and consumers. It provides a unified ecosystem for visual orthodontic and restorative treatment planning, featuring facial lines, tooth mass analysis, and in-face visualizations. New additions include Flex Rx, the Invisalign® Personalized Plan (IPP), ClinCheck® Smile Video, and ClinCheck® Live Update.
“I’ve waited my entire career for a product like Invisalign Smile Architect! It simplifies the transformation of traditional esthetic restorative cases into minimally invasive ortho-restorative plans, visualizing optimal tooth positioning for the best aesthetic outcome,” said Dr. Michael DiTolla, a cosmetic dentist in Lodi, California, who participated in the limited market release. “The Multiple Treatment Plans feature has been crucial in helping patients grasp the differences between ortho-only and ortho-restorative outcomes, leading to higher case acceptance and compliance. I now consider a conservative approach of moving teeth before starting any anterior restorative case. Invisalign Smile Architect with Multiple Treatment Plans is a significant advancement in restorative dentistry!”
Dr. Karla Soto, a general practitioner and Align® Faculty member in Boca Raton, Florida, added, “This latest release of the Invisalign Smile Architect software has enhanced my ability to engage patients by helping them visualize potential treatment outcomes, including cosmetic enhancements. This has elevated the patient experience and improved Invisalign® case acceptance in my practice.”
Invisalign Smile Architect software with Multiple Treatment Plans is expected to be available to trained Invisalign doctors in Q4 2024.
