HSBC Report: AI and Trust to Transform Healthcare by 2035

According to the report “Health 2035: A Bold Path Through the Uncharted Future of Health,” published by HSBC Innovation Banking and The Linus Group, meaningful change in healthcare requires enhanced trust between physicians and patients, a reimagining of in-person interactions, and innovative solutions to break down silos and rethink incentives. The report was unveiled at HLTH USA 2024 in Las Vegas.

The report “Health 2035: A Bold Path Through the Uncharted Future of Health,” published by HSBC Innovation Banking and The Linus Group, examines the intersection of industry and healthcare through the lens of young physicians and potential future scenarios driving innovation.

Surveying over 1,000 physicians aged 21 to 35, the report reveals their perspectives on current trends and opportunities for meaningful change. The primary motivation for entering the medical field was to help others, cited by 61% of respondents. Notably, two-thirds believe that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform patient interactions, with predictions that AI will assist in 32% of diagnoses and 31% of therapeutic decisions, while only 8% of their time will involve AI in patient communication.

The report uncovers complex relationships between factors that both advance and hinder healthcare delivery, aiming to inspire practitioners and entrepreneurs to improve patient outcomes, enhance physician well-being, and optimize the healthcare system. It notes that migration trends will continue to influence care delivery based on environmental impacts, ideological beliefs, resource access, and online communities.

“Advancements in biosciences, health administration, and technology have the potential to revolutionize healthcare,” stated Katherine Andersen, Head of Life Science and Healthcare at HSBC Innovation Banking. “However, realizing this potential requires understanding both obvious and subtle forces shaping industry outcomes. Health 2035 provides bold predictions and a critical call to action for a future where technology, expertise, and compassionate care converge.”

Hamid Ghanadan, CEO of LINUS, added, “To envision the future of health, we must engage future healthcare providers about their perceptions. Today’s youngest physicians represent the future of care, and their insights into opportunities and barriers will shape healthcare by 2035.”

The report combines qualitative and quantitative insights, featuring perspectives from industry leaders and innovators who outline key scenarios expected to redefine the healthcare landscape over the next decade. It identifies early indicators of shifting dynamics within the sector and challenges conventional practices, aiming to guide the next generation of healthcare leaders.
