PursueCare, a leader in virtual addiction treatment, has announced the launch of RESET® and RESET-O®, the first FDA-authorized prescription digital therapeutics for substance use disorder (SUD) and opioid use disorder (OUD). These innovative app-based therapies offer a self-guided 12-week cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program, encouraging patients to complete lessons, stay committed to treatment, and avoid drug use. Clinical results indicate that these digital therapies can reduce substance use, improve treatment retention, and lower overall healthcare costs, marking a significant advancement in addiction treatment.
RESET® and RESET-O®, originally developed by Pear Therapeutics, were acquired by PursueCare late last year. PursueCare plans to integrate these FDA-authorized prescription digital therapeutics (PDTs) into its comprehensive virtual treatment offerings, focusing on value-based care arrangements with health plans. The company is also partnering with clinics to facilitate access to RESET® and RESET-O® for their patients.
Real-World Impact and Cost Savings
These digital therapeutics complement outpatient care, including medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), by providing continuous support and personalized progress tracking. They enhance patient engagement and align with the value-based care models favored by health plans. According to data from the Massachusetts Medicaid program, MassHealth, users of RESET® and RESET-O® saved an average of $2,011 per user in healthcare costs, with reductions in emergency room visits and hospitalizations by 45% and 64%, respectively.
“At PursueCare, we believe everyone deserves accessible, high-quality care that supports them throughout their recovery journey. RESET® and RESET-O® are perfectly aligned with our mission, empowering individuals to take control of their health and setting a new standard for chronic substance use disorder treatment,” said Nick Mercadante, Founder and CEO of PursueCare.
Comprehensive Virtual Care
PursueCare’s virtual clinic model provides telehealth treatment for various substances, including opioids, alcohol, and stimulants, through a multidisciplinary care team. Treatment plans encompass MOUD (medication-assisted treatment), counseling, psychiatry, targeted case management, and pharmacy services, all accessible via PursueCare’s smartphone app. “Our team is dedicated to meeting the critical need for accessible addiction treatment. RESET® and RESET-O® are essential tools for keeping patients engaged, while the data-driven insights facilitate personalized care and timely interventions,” said Dr. Jason Kirby, PursueCare’s Medical Director.
Expanding Access Through Partnerships
PursueCare collaborates with health systems and community providers to offer integrated addiction care locally. Screening, interventions, and referrals occur at crucial points, such as emergency rooms, allowing for same-day treatment initiation. Recent research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to enhance patient outcomes.
