Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI), a leading innovator in medical technology, has announced a new partnership with Google to develop a reference platform for Wear OS by Google™ smartwatches. This collaboration will integrate Masimo’s advanced biosensing technologies, honed through decades of hospital monitoring expertise, to help OEMs efficiently create high-performing Wear OS smartwatches. The platform will offer robust health and wellness tracking tools, accurate data, seamless integration with Android™ smartphones, and a superior user experience.
Joe Kiani, Founder and CEO of Masimo, stated, “Partnering with Google to develop this Wear OS reference platform allows us to leverage our expertise in biosensing and signal processing. Our goal is to provide OEMs with a comprehensive solution that enhances the performance of Wear OS smartwatches. Just as our technologies improve hospital monitoring, we aim to empower smartwatch makers to deliver cutting-edge devices to consumers.”
Bjorn Kilburn, GM of Wear OS at Google, added, “Creating high-quality smartwatches with advanced features can be complex and costly. Masimo’s reference platform simplifies this process, enabling smartwatch manufacturers to bring innovative Wear OS devices to market more efficiently. Our collaboration fosters innovation and ensures users have access to high-performing, feature-rich smartwatches.”
The Masimo platform will be compatible with existing Google apps and services for Wear OS. OEMs will have creative control over the physical design and user interface of their smartwatches, while Masimo will handle the internal hardware, software, biosensors, and companion Android app. The platform will incorporate the same biosensing technology used in Masimo’s W1® and upcoming Freedom™ smartwatches, offering industry-leading performance and user experience in a standardized, easy-to-implement package.
