Baxter International Inc. (NYSE), a global medtech leader, has published its 2023 Corporate Responsibility Report, highlighting its ongoing commitment to impactful global healthcare and transparent reporting on environmental, social, and governance issues crucial to stakeholders.
José (Joe) E. Almeida, chair, president, and CEO of Baxter, emphasized the company’s dedication to ethical business practices and its mission to save and sustain lives. The report focuses on Baxter’s progress toward its 2030 Corporate Responsibility Commitment and Goals, centered on empowering patients, protecting the planet, and supporting its people and communities.
Key highlights from the report include:
- Invested over $143 million since 2021 to support underserved communities through partnerships and donations.
- Established a new partnership with UNICEF and committed $2.5 million through the Baxter International Foundation to enhance access to safe drinking water and sanitation in water-stressed areas of Egypt.
- Completed 150 energy conservation projects in 2023, projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 21,100 metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually from 2024 onwards, nearly doubling the reduction achieved in 2022.
- Maintained top quartile workplace safety performance based on total recordable incident rate.
Baxter continues to enhance its reporting standards, including its inaugural disclosure aligned with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework. Looking ahead, Baxter plans to conduct a double materiality assessment to refine its corporate responsibility approach post the proposed Kidney Care business separation, ensuring alignment with evolving industry standards and stakeholder expectations.
