Managed Health Services (MHS), a longstanding managed care entity in Indiana, operating under Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), has unveiled the launch of MHS Serves, a pioneering $12 million health equity initiative dedicated to addressing and eradicating health disparities across the state. Over the span of six years, MHS Serves will allocate a minimum of $2 million annually towards fostering health equity through strategic community partnerships and innovations. Collaborating with Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) and Black Onyx Management, MHS Serves aims to manage the program effectively.
The inaugural initiative under MHS Serves, the Broadband Access Strategic Partnership, seeks to enhance broadband access in historically marginalized communities. By supporting internet readiness through strategic planning and surveys, and facilitating internet adoption initiatives in underserved areas, the program endeavors to bolster Indiana’s certified Broadband Ready Communities.
Kevin O’Toole, President and CEO of MHS, expressed pride in the establishment of MHS Serves, highlighting its significance in advancing health equity and addressing social determinants of health. MHS has a longstanding partnership with IMHC, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating health disparities among minority populations, and Black Onyx Management, which focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Carl Ellison, President and CEO of IMHC, and Marshawn Wolley, President and CEO of Black Onyx Management, both expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with MHS Serves, emphasizing the alignment of missions in promoting quality healthcare and addressing health disparities.
MHS’ Health Equity Committee and MHS Serves Advisory Council will work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify and address factors contributing to health disparities. Through research-based interventions and strategic partnerships, MHS Serves aims to mitigate health disparities effectively.
The Broadband Access Strategic Partnership represents the first opportunity for community empowerment under MHS Serves, aiming to enhance internet and technology adoption in underserved communities. Organizations interested in partnership funding can access the Application Portal on the MHS Serves website. Applications open on May 14, 2024, and close on June 21, 2024.
