MedSuite Appoints Fred Martin as Chief Executive Officer to Lead Next Phase of Growth
MedSuite, a technology company focused on serving the behavioral health market, has appointed Fred Martin as Chief Executive Officer, bringing more than two decades of healthcare technology leadership experience to the company as it enters a new phase of product development, operational growth, and artificial intelligence innovation.
Martin joins MedSuite with a background spanning healthcare technology, product strategy, operations, artificial intelligence implementation, and value creation within private equity-backed businesses. His appointment comes as behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) providers increasingly seek technology platforms that can simplify clinical workflows, improve operational efficiency, and connect clinical and financial processes.
MedSuite provides technology solutions designed to support behavioral health systems, addiction treatment providers, and human service organizations across the United States. Its platform includes electronic health records, medication administration, treatment program management, scheduling, clinical documentation, and revenue cycle management capabilities.
The company serves organizations operating both inpatient and outpatient facilities, as well as providers supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under Martin’s leadership, MedSuite plans to place a strong emphasis on modernizing its technology platform and identifying opportunities where AI can deliver meaningful value for customers.
Fred Martin Brings Extensive Healthcare Technology Experience
Martin comes to MedSuite with more than 20 years of experience across healthcare technology and related industries. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions involving product development, engineering, operations, strategy, commercialization, and technology transformation.
His experience includes working with organizations across electronic health records, clinical software, patient experience analytics, healthcare supply chain intelligence, medical device commercialization, and clinical research technology.
That broad experience is expected to play an important role as MedSuite works to address the evolving technology requirements of behavioral health and IDD providers.
Ross Croley, Chairman of the MedSuite Board of Directors and CEO of Greater Sum Ventures, MedSuite’s control investor, said Martin distinguished himself during the company’s search for a new healthcare technology leader.
According to Croley, Martin demonstrated the combination of experience and strategic perspective MedSuite was seeking as it prepares for its next stage of development. His background in building and scaling technology businesses, combined with his understanding of AI transformation in healthcare, made him a strong fit for the position.
Martin’s appointment therefore represents more than a leadership transition. It signals MedSuite’s intention to make technology modernization and AI central to its product and business strategy.
AI Becomes a Central Focus for MedSuite
One of the most important areas of Martin’s leadership agenda will be the application of artificial intelligence across MedSuite’s technology platform.
Healthcare organizations are increasingly evaluating AI as a way to improve workflows, reduce administrative burdens, support clinical teams, and make information more accessible. For behavioral health providers, these opportunities can be particularly important because organizations often manage complex clinical documentation, scheduling, treatment planning, medication administration, billing, and compliance requirements.
Martin brings direct experience in moving AI initiatives from strategy into practical implementation. At MedSuite, he plans to evaluate where AI can create the greatest impact for customers and incorporate those capabilities into the company’s core platform.
Rather than treating AI as an isolated technology feature, MedSuite intends to use it as a broader framework for evaluating product decisions, workflows, and customer engagement.
This approach could influence how the company develops new functionality, improves existing tools, and works with customers to address operational challenges.
Martin’s previous experience with AI implementation provides a foundation for this strategy. During his tenure at SubjectWell, he led a significant AI implementation that changed how the organization delivered value to customers.
That experience will now inform his work at MedSuite as the company looks to identify practical applications of AI within behavioral health technology.
Addressing Technology Challenges in Behavioral Health
Behavioral health and IDD providers operate in an environment where technology can have a direct effect on clinical and administrative efficiency. Providers must manage patient and client information, coordinate care, maintain documentation, handle medication-related processes, schedule appointments, and manage billing and reimbursement.
When these functions are spread across disconnected systems, staff may spend significant time moving information between applications or working around limitations in their technology.
Martin identified this issue as one of the key areas MedSuite must address.
He said behavioral health and IDD providers have spent years adapting their workflows around software rather than having technology work in support of their operations. Customers are looking for a more modern user experience and a unified environment in which clinical records and claims can work together.
For MedSuite, creating greater harmonization between the clinical and financial sides of healthcare operations will therefore be a major priority.
The company’s existing capabilities across electronic health records and revenue cycle management provide a foundation for this objective. By continuing to develop the platform, MedSuite aims to make it easier for providers to manage important processes within a more connected technology environment.
Modernizing the User Experience
The push for a modern interface is another important component of Martin’s strategy.
Healthcare technology has evolved considerably, with providers increasingly expecting software to offer intuitive navigation, streamlined workflows, and easier access to information. Behavioral health organizations are no exception.
A modern interface can potentially reduce friction for clinicians, administrative teams, and other staff members who rely on technology throughout their daily work.
For MedSuite customers, the goal is not simply to introduce new technology but to make the technology more useful within the context of actual healthcare operations.
Martin’s product leadership background will be particularly relevant in this area. His career has included responsibility for product strategy, design, engineering, and operations, giving him experience across the different functions required to transform a healthcare technology platform.
Leadership Experience at SubjectWell
Before joining MedSuite, Martin served as Chief Executive Officer of SubjectWell, a patient recruitment platform for clinical trials that is now known as Clariness.
SubjectWell was backed by WindRose Health Investors during Martin’s tenure. As CEO, he guided the organization through multiple acquisitions, expanded its market presence, and helped transition the business from a venture-backed model to a private equity-backed organization.
His tenure also included a major focus on artificial intelligence.
The experience gave Martin exposure to several aspects of healthcare technology leadership, including business transformation, acquisition integration, market expansion, and technology implementation.
These experiences are relevant to MedSuite as the company looks to strengthen its position in the behavioral health technology market while continuing to evolve its platform.
Five Years of Leadership at Medrio
Before SubjectWell, Martin spent more than five years at Medrio, an e-clinical software company focused on clinical data management.
He initially joined Medrio as Vice President of Engineering and Product Management. His responsibilities expanded over time, and he ultimately advanced to Chief Product Officer and then Chief Operating Officer.
During his time at Medrio, Martin oversaw a broad range of functions, including product strategy, product design, engineering, quality, and marketing for a global organization.
That progression provided him with experience managing both technology development and broader operational responsibilities.
The combination of engineering, product, and operational leadership is particularly relevant to MedSuite’s current priorities, as the company seeks to connect technology innovation with practical customer outcomes.
Broader Healthcare Technology Career
Martin’s experience extends beyond SubjectWell and Medrio.
Earlier in his career, he held senior product and strategy positions at MatrixCare, PointClickCare, Press Ganey Associates, Premier, and Boston Scientific.
These organizations exposed Martin to different areas of healthcare technology and healthcare services.
At MatrixCare, he worked in an organization that was later acquired by ResMed for $750 million. His career has also included experience with electronic health record platforms, patient experience analytics, supply chain intelligence, and medical device commercialization.
This breadth of experience gives Martin a perspective that spans both software and broader healthcare technology ecosystems.
It also provides experience across different healthcare stakeholders and operational models, which could help inform MedSuite’s strategy as it works with behavioral health systems, addiction treatment organizations, human service providers, and IDD-focused organizations.
Connecting the Chart and the Claim
One of Martin’s primary objectives will be to create greater alignment between clinical documentation and revenue cycle processes.
For healthcare providers, clinical information and claims management are closely connected. Accurate documentation can influence billing, reimbursement, compliance, reporting, and operational performance.
When clinical and financial workflows are disconnected, organizations may face additional administrative complexity.
Martin described the opportunity to create an environment where the chart and the claim can work together within a more unified technology experience.
This goal aligns with MedSuite’s existing capabilities across electronic health records and revenue cycle management.
The company’s strategy under Martin will focus on improving the connection between these functions while continuing to develop the technology and workflows that behavioral health and IDD providers need.
Established Leadership Team
Martin will work alongside an established executive leadership team at MedSuite.
The leadership group includes Jason Vandenbogaard, Chief Financial Officer; Brien Burkett, Chief Operating Officer; Eddie Frederick, Chief Technology Officer; and Imraan Hassam, Chief Growth Officer.
The combination of financial, operational, technology, and growth leadership provides MedSuite with an executive structure intended to support its next stage of development.
Martin’s role will add another layer of healthcare technology and product leadership to the organization, with particular emphasis on AI, platform modernization, customer value, and operational improvement.
A New Chapter for MedSuite
Martin’s appointment comes at a time when behavioral health organizations are increasingly looking for technology that can support more efficient and connected care delivery.
Providers need systems capable of handling complex clinical and administrative requirements while also giving employees tools that are easier to use.
For MedSuite, the next stage will focus on addressing these expectations through platform development, AI initiatives, workflow improvements, and greater integration between clinical and financial processes.
Martin’s experience across healthcare software, product management, operations, acquisitions, and AI implementation positions him to lead this effort.
His stated priorities emphasize practical outcomes rather than technology for its own sake. The objective is to identify where AI and other technology improvements can solve real problems for customers and then incorporate those capabilities into the platform.
As behavioral health and IDD organizations continue to navigate growing operational demands, MedSuite will seek to position its technology as a more integrated part of their daily workflows.
With Martin now serving as CEO, the company enters its next chapter with a strategy centered on modernization, harmonization, and AI-driven innovation. His leadership is expected to guide MedSuite as it works to strengthen its platform, improve the customer experience, and support the evolving technology needs of behavioral health and human service organizations across the United States.
