RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder) Strengthens Emergency Care with New Medical and Nursing Leadership Team
RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder) has announced a significant leadership transition within its Central Emergency Department, appointing an experienced dual-chief physician team and a new nursing leader to guide one of the hospital’s most critical clinical areas into the future. The new leadership structure reflects the clinic’s commitment to delivering high-quality emergency care, embracing innovation, and responding to the growing complexity of modern emergency medicine.
Dr. Ronny Enk and Dr. Dominik Treffer have jointly assumed the role of Chief Physicians of the Central Emergency Department, introducing a collaborative leadership model designed to strengthen interdisciplinary expertise and support the department’s continued growth. They will work alongside Yvonne Thiede, who has taken responsibility for nursing management after years of service within the department.
The appointments mark an important milestone for RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder) as it seeks to enhance emergency care services, improve patient outcomes, and further integrate advanced technologies into clinical practice.
A Modern Leadership Model for Modern Emergency Medicine
Emergency medicine has evolved dramatically in recent years, requiring healthcare organizations to manage increasingly complex patient needs while maintaining rapid response times and high standards of care. Recognizing these challenges, RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder) has chosen to implement a dual-leadership structure for its emergency department.
According to Prof. Dr. med. Christiane Richter-Ehrenstein, Medical Director of the clinic, the decision reflects a strategic commitment to strengthening emergency services through collaborative expertise.
“With this appointment, we are deliberately embracing a dual leadership model. Emergency medicine brings together numerous medical specialties and places high demands on clinical, organizational, and interpersonal competencies. Shared leadership enables us to draw upon a broader range of expertise while supporting the sustainable development of our Central Emergency Department,” she explained.
The model is expected to foster innovation, improve operational efficiency, and support the department’s ability to adapt to evolving healthcare demands. By combining the complementary strengths of two experienced emergency medicine specialists, the clinic aims to ensure comprehensive oversight of patient care, clinical quality, and strategic planning.
Strategic Priorities for the Central Emergency Department
As they assume their new responsibilities, Dr. Enk and Dr. Treffer have identified several key priorities aimed at further improving emergency care delivery.
A central focus will be the optimization of patient pathways to ensure faster and more targeted treatment for individuals arriving at the emergency department. This includes refining triage processes, enhancing communication across clinical teams, and implementing evidence-based approaches to patient management.
The leadership team also plans to leverage digital health technologies and artificial intelligence to support clinical decision-making and improve operational efficiency. By integrating advanced technological solutions into emergency care workflows, the department hopes to streamline processes, reduce waiting times, and provide clinicians with enhanced tools for patient assessment and treatment planning.
Another major priority will be strengthening education and professional development. The new chief physicians are committed to expanding training opportunities for physicians, nurses, and emergency care professionals, helping to ensure that staff remain equipped with the latest clinical knowledge and skills.
Collaboration will also play a critical role in the department’s future strategy. The leadership team intends to deepen partnerships with hospital specialty departments, emergency medical services, and regional outpatient care providers to create a more integrated care network for patients across the region.
Among the most ambitious projects under consideration is the establishment of a dedicated simulation and training center at the Frankfurt (Oder) campus. Such a facility would provide healthcare professionals with opportunities to practice complex emergency scenarios in a controlled environment, supporting continuous learning and improving readiness for critical situations.
Dr. Ronny Enk Brings Extensive Clinical and Academic Experience
At 48 years old, Dr. Ronny Enk joins the leadership team with a distinguished background in emergency and internal medicine.
A specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Enk holds additional qualifications in clinical acute and emergency medicine, emergency medicine, palliative medicine, and sports medicine. His broad expertise reflects years of experience caring for patients across diverse healthcare settings.
Prior to joining RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder), Dr. Enk served as a senior physician in the Emergency Department and Rescue Medicine Division at Helios Clinic Bad Saarow. Simultaneously, he worked as an emergency physician aboard the Christoph 49 rescue helicopter, providing critical care in high-pressure situations requiring rapid decision-making and advanced clinical skills.
His professional career has also included positions at the Leer Clinic, the Borkum Island Hospital, and Fürth Clinic, where he gained valuable experience across a variety of healthcare environments.
Dr. Enk studied medicine at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and further expanded his international perspective through studies at the Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing. Notably, he serves as a mentor within the “Principles and Practice of Clinical Research” program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, supporting healthcare professionals and researchers pursuing advanced training in clinical research methodologies.
His combination of frontline emergency medicine experience, academic engagement, and international exposure positions him well to contribute to the future development of emergency services at RHÖN Clinic Frankfurt (Oder).
Dr. Dominik Treffer Adds Expertise in Emergency and Critical Care
Joining Dr. Enk in the department’s leadership team is Dr. Dominik Treffer, a 36-year-old specialist whose career has been defined by a strong focus on emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and trauma care.
Dr. Treffer studied human medicine at the University of Regensburg and completed his doctoral research in the field of severe trauma patient management. His academic work laid the foundation for a career dedicated to caring for critically ill and injured patients.
He completed his specialist training in anesthesiology at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Ulm, where he developed extensive expertise in perioperative medicine, intensive care, and emergency response.
One of the defining experiences of his career was serving as an emergency physician with the United Nations peacekeeping mission MINUSMA in Mali. This international deployment provided valuable experience in delivering emergency medical care under challenging conditions and further strengthened his crisis management capabilities.
Following his military and international service, Dr. Treffer held positions at Straubing Hospital and Ilmtalklinik Pfaffenhofen/Mainburg before joining Helios Clinic Bad Saarow. Most recently, he served as a senior physician in the Central Emergency Department and worked as an emergency physician on the Christoph 49 rescue helicopter.

His extensive teaching experience is expected to play a key role in advancing training initiatives within the department.
Strengthening Nursing Leadership
The department’s new leadership structure extends beyond medical management. Yvonne Thiede has assumed responsibility for nursing leadership, bringing deep institutional knowledge and years of frontline experience within the Central Emergency Department.
Having served in the department for many years and most recently as Deputy Head of Nursing, Thiede is well acquainted with the operational and clinical challenges of emergency care. Her promotion reflects the clinic’s confidence in her leadership abilities and her commitment to patient-centered nursing excellence.
