Solace Health and The American Legion Partner to Help Veterans Navigate an Increasingly Complex Healthcare System
Solace Health and The American Legion have announced a strategic partnership designed to help veterans access and navigate the healthcare services they have earned through their service to the nation. By combining The American Legion’s longstanding commitment to supporting veterans with Solace Health’s healthcare advocacy expertise, the collaboration seeks to address one of the most persistent challenges facing veterans today: navigating a fragmented and often complicated healthcare system.
The partnership reflects a shared belief that veterans deserve not only access to high-quality healthcare but also the guidance and support necessary to make informed decisions about their care. Through this initiative, eligible American Legion members and many other Americans can be connected with dedicated healthcare advocates whose services are covered by insurance. These advocates work directly with patients to help coordinate care, explain benefits, schedule appointments, and ensure that healthcare needs are addressed efficiently and effectively.
For many veterans, healthcare extends beyond a single provider or system. While the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) remains a critical source of medical care for millions of former service members, an increasing number of veterans also receive treatment through private healthcare networks, Medicare programs, employer-sponsored plans, and specialty medical providers. Managing healthcare across multiple organizations can be overwhelming, particularly for individuals dealing with chronic illnesses, complex medical conditions, or administrative challenges.
The new partnership aims to bridge these gaps by providing veterans with experienced healthcare professionals who serve as advocates throughout their healthcare journey. Solace Health’s advocates include registered nurses and other qualified healthcare professionals who bring years of clinical and care coordination experience to the role. On average, these advocates possess more than 16 years of professional healthcare experience, enabling them to effectively guide patients through complicated medical and insurance-related processes.
According to Solace Health leadership, healthcare advocacy has become increasingly important as patients face growing challenges in understanding insurance coverage, coordinating appointments, and communicating across multiple healthcare providers. Veterans often face additional complexities because they may receive care from both VA facilities and civilian healthcare systems, creating the need for seamless coordination between organizations that do not always share information efficiently.
Jeremy Gurewitz, CEO and co-founder of Solace Health, emphasized the importance of ensuring that veterans have knowledgeable support when interacting with healthcare systems.
Veterans should have someone in their corner who stops at nothing to get them the best care,” Gurewitz said. “Healthcare is complicated for everyone, but veterans face an added burden. While they have access to excellent care through the VA, there is often very little connective tissue between the different people and providers who take care of them. We are proud to partner with The American Legion to make sure the gaps between systems do not become gaps in care.”
The American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans service organization, has long advocated for improvements in veterans’ healthcare and benefits. The organization recognizes that while significant resources exist for veterans, accessing those resources can sometimes be difficult due to administrative hurdles, fragmented care systems, and evolving healthcare policies.
Through the partnership, veterans will have access to advocates who can assist with a broad range of healthcare-related tasks. These professionals help patients understand insurance benefits and coverage options, identify appropriate healthcare providers and specialists, coordinate referrals, schedule appointments, and manage communication among various healthcare teams. They can also help organize medical records and facilitate information sharing between VA providers and civilian healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
This level of support can be especially valuable for veterans managing multiple medical conditions or seeking treatment from numerous providers. In many cases, patients are expected to coordinate appointments, transfer records, follow up on referrals, and navigate insurance requirements on their own. These responsibilities can be time-consuming and stressful, often adding to the burden of managing health concerns.
By handling much of this administrative workload, healthcare advocates enable veterans to focus on their treatment and overall well-being rather than spending valuable time dealing with paperwork, phone calls, and complex healthcare processes.
Paul Evenson, Marketing Commission Chairman for The American Legion, highlighted the significance of making healthcare navigation easier for veterans.
“Veterans have earned the best healthcare possible for their service to our nation,” Evenson said. “The VA provides high-quality care for millions of veterans. But today, many veterans also receive care from private providers, Medicare, and specialty systems, and navigating that complexity is a burden no veteran should carry alone. Through this partnership with Solace Health, veterans have access to experienced advocates who help them navigate their healthcare and get every benefit they have earned.”
The initiative comes at a time when healthcare systems across the United States are becoming increasingly interconnected yet more difficult for patients to navigate independently. Advances in medical technology, specialized treatment options, insurance structures, and care delivery models have improved healthcare outcomes but have also created additional layers of complexity. Patients frequently encounter challenges understanding coverage requirements, coordinating care among specialists, and ensuring that all providers have access to complete and accurate medical information.
For veterans, these challenges can be magnified when care is delivered across multiple systems. Differences in processes, communication channels, and record-keeping practices can create barriers that may delay treatment or cause confusion. Healthcare advocacy services are designed to minimize these obstacles by ensuring that information flows smoothly between providers and that patients remain informed throughout every stage of their care.
Solace Health’s model focuses on personalized support, recognizing that every patient’s healthcare journey is unique. Advocates work one-on-one with individuals to understand their needs, identify potential barriers, and develop practical solutions that improve access to care. Whether helping a veteran locate a specialist, clarify insurance coverage, coordinate treatment plans, or manage ongoing healthcare needs, advocates serve as dedicated partners committed to achieving positive outcomes.
The partnership also reflects a broader movement within healthcare toward patient-centered care, where support services play a critical role in improving patient experiences and outcomes. Research has consistently shown that coordinated care and effective patient advocacy can contribute to better health outcomes, improved satisfaction, and reduced administrative burdens.
As awareness of healthcare advocacy services continues to grow, organizations such as Solace Health are helping patients gain greater control over their healthcare experiences while reducing the stress often associated with navigating complex medical systems.
For The American Legion, the collaboration represents another step in its ongoing mission to support veterans and their families. By connecting members with professional healthcare advocates, the organization hopes to ensure that veterans receive not only access to healthcare services but also the guidance necessary to make the most of those services.
Ultimately, the partnership between Solace Health and The American Legion is built on a simple but powerful principle: veterans should never have to navigate healthcare challenges alone. By providing experienced advocates who can coordinate care, explain benefits, and manage administrative complexities, the two organizations are working together to help veterans receive the quality care and support they deserve.
