Henry Schein Medical, the U.S. medical business of Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS) recently teamed up to help rebuild and enhance the athletic training clinic at Thomas Jefferson High School, part of the Dallas (TX) Independent School District, which was devastated by a tornado in October 2019. Each year, Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools team sponsors the Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year award presented by PFATS. The 2022 recipient, Greg Gaither, Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Dallas Cowboys, chose to aid in the rebuilding efforts of the athletic training clinic at Thomas Jefferson High School, his alma mater. Together, Henry Schein Medical Athletics and Schools and PFATS donated essential athletic training supplies and modalities, such as compression devices and muscle massagers, to help furnish the school with the proper equipment needed to provide exceptional care for athletes.
“It is a great honor to have been recognized by my peers as the 2022 Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year,” said Mr. Gaither. “Henry Schein plays a big role in our daily work lives, but more importantly, they have a positive impact on our community. I am thankful to Henry Schein – and PFATS – not only for their contribution to Thomas Jefferson High School, but for all of the contributions they have made to schools across the country.
“As a graduate of Thomas Jefferson, I have a special place in my heart for the school, and after the tornado devastated the school and athletic facilities, I wanted to do my part to give back. Athletic trainers are an integral part to all athletics programs, and it is important to provide the proper tools and supplies to those that work with the next generation of athletes. Thomas Jefferson High School is more than deserving of Henry Schein’s generosity,” added Mr. Gaither.
Thomas Jefferson High School reopened in January 2023 with its upgraded athletic training clinic. In addition to its donation, Henry Schein helped design the clinic, procure furniture and exercise equipment, and set up the facility.
“It is imperative that athletic trainers have appropriate materials and facilities in order to treat their athletes,” said Eric Kearns, National Sales Director, Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business. “Athletic trainers play a vital role for the entire student body, and they are essential for every team and school. We are pleased to have partnered with PFATS and Greg Gaither to ensure Thomas Jefferson High School has what they need both on and off the field.”
Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business has sponsored the Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year award since 2011. The award recognizes the commitment, dedication, and integrity of one trainer from each of the two conferences in the professional football league. The 2023 award winners were Marco Zucconi, Associate Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Chargers, and Nate Weir, Associate Athletic Trainer and Director of Rehab & Return to Play for the Green Bay Packers.
“At PFATS, our commitment to the promotion and advancement of athletic training aligns with Henry Schein Medical’s continued work in championing the value of athletic trainers,” said Reggie Scott, Past-President, PFATS. “We are delighted to have presented Greg Gaither with the 2022 NFC Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year award, and to have played a part in keeping Thomas Jefferson High School athletes ready for action.”
Along with PFATS, Henry Schein Medical’s supplier partners CanDo®, Essity, Milliken, Mueller Sports Medicine, and The Athletic Edge helped contribute products for the new training clinic.
